Job Summary
The Applied Research Team within the R&D organization of West is responsible for driving the development of innovative products designed to improve patient lives. The role will support Senior Scientist in developing new technologies in the Gene Delivery areas which involves hands on laboratory work, prototyping and new assay development in our R&D lab facility with state-of-the-art equipment. You will also support and engage with highly collaborative team working on different initiatives in nanomedicine-based gene delivery systems and will interface internally with our scientists working on advanced therapies, and drug delivery programs. You will be working with your team and direct manager to design studies which you will potentially lead during the co-op tenure at West.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Execute laboratory research studies focused on various gene delivery platforms, evaluate performance of different prototypes, and perform experiments with senior personnel on routine basis
- Record and analyze data generated in lab following West SOPs and provide well-reasoned recommendations to the team
- Learn, maintain and follow high safety standards and participate in mandatory trainings
- Prepare and analyze samples using different scientific equipment assisting other lab members
- Perform literature searches focused on the projects and compile reports as needed
- Perform other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor of Science in Life Sciences, Chemical, or Biomedical Engineering
- No min required 0-3 years of experience, can include time spent in industry and graduate school. This includes 1+ years-experience in laboratory-based science environments like analytical labs, academic labs, and industrial co-ops. required
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Previous intern and/or co-op experiences in wet chemical lab, medical devices, and/or pharmaceutical industry
- Basic understanding of nanoparticles application in medicine especially lipid nanoparticles based systems
- Good understanding of basic chemistry with hands on lab experience in research labs
- Self-motivated as well as a team player with high curiosity and desire to learn
- Proficiency with MS word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills

- Must be able to commute to, and work from, the West Radnor site at minimum 4 days per week, and up to 5 days per week as project requirements dictate.
- Must be able to work effectively in a hybrid office/home office corporate environment.
