Shift Pattern: Day shift
Contract: Permanent full-time position

 

Job Summary:

To provide Engineering Technical cover for all production and site support equipment, thereby ensuring high levels of machine availability. The role will specifically focus on Planned Preventative Maintenance. The position will work as part of a multi-disciplined Engineering team that provides the technical support for the facility, and as such the post holder may be required to support other positions within the team as required.
 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Fault finding and defect rectification on all production and site support equipment.
  • Carry out Planned Preventative Maintenance tasks for production and site equipment. in line with the established schedule and ensure any defects or issues found are recorded and corrected where the role holder’s skill levels allow.
  • Correct completion of the recording of defect rectification and maintenance
  • To modify or install equipment and machinery as required.
  • Liaising with production colleagues to identify windows of opportunity for carrying out Planned Preventative Maintenance and engineering-related work.
  • Ensure compliance to corporate guidelines, safety regulations and regulatory requirements
  • Ensure all parts that are used as part of the maintenance are booked out correctly to ensure stock levels are maintained.
  • Act as the main point of contact for external contractors carrying preventative maintenance activities, ensuring a full report is received upon completion including any defects or further work that is required. Manage their permits to work to allow the work to proceed.
  • Ensure any spare parts that are required as a result of the maintenance and that are not available, are ordered and fitted when they arrive.
  • Ensure all Planned Preventative Maintenance tasks are planned with production and that the asset is handed back upon successful completion.
  • Support in the continuous review program for Planned Preventative Maintenance tasks to ensure the maintenance being carried out is fully effective. These reviews will identify potential shortfalls in the schedule and / or areas where the existing maintenance is not effective.
  • Maintaining services by carrying out planned maintenance and improvements.
  • Lead and support the shift technicians in their role and work.
  • Ensure that all training courses required for the role are completed.
  • Carry out projects as directed by the Engineering Supervisor.
  • Support and contribute actively in Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target.
  • Keep Production Supervisor and Engineering Management aware of maintenance issues and downtime.

As the Preventative Maintenance Engineer, you have the following HSE Responsibilities:

  • Take reasonable care for their own safety, health and welfare and that of any other person, who may be affected by his/her acts or omissions while at work.
  • Work in a safe manner and stay alert, in order to avoid injury to themselves or other employees and avoid damage to the company’s equipment and property.
  • Follow all safety rules and requirements and provide feedback to co-workers working unsafely.
  • Use any personal protective equipment or clothing, suitable appliance, equipment or other means for securing his/her safety, health and welfare while at work.
  • They shall not perform a job that for they were not trained to perform and they shall inform their supervisor in this case.
  • Partner with management on all the provisions taken by West to ensure the safety, health and welfare of its employees.
  • SEE-DO-SAY Something: Respond to unsafe conditions, unsafe acts and near misses. Apply mitigation measures, and report to supervisor.
  • Stop Think Act: Discuss problems openly with colleagues and leaders before taking action in a non-routine situation.
  • Employees will not intentionally or recklessly interfere with or misuse any appliance, protective clothing, equipment or other means provided.
  • Each employee will attend and follow training required by West.
  • Employees shall not be under the influence of intoxicating substances such as alcohol or drugs and inform their supervisor of a disease, illness or prescribed medication that may add to risk.
  • Ensure all work is carried out safely following both internal and mandatory codes of practice to ensure that all personnel are protected.
  • Report Unsafe Occurrences, Near Miss Incidents and Accidents at the earliest opportunity following the correct procedure.
  • Be compliant with any machine instructions, & responsible for the proper use of all equipment assets within the work area.
     

Education and Experience:
Required:

  • NVQ Level 3 Electrical and/or Mechanical Engineering qualification.
  • Minimum of 3 years engineering experience.
  • Experience in an Electrical/Mechanical Engineering in a manufacturing/production environment.
  • An understanding of Lean Manufacturing.
  • HSE Experience or qualifications.
  • Trained to BS 7671 IET Wiring Regulations.
  • Experience of industrial equipment maintenance, fault finding and defect rectification.
     

Nice to Have:

  • Engineering / Technical Degree
  • Hydraulic knowledge and fault-finding ability
  • PLC, Robotics/PLC experience

Physical and Travel Requirements

  • Occasional travel UK and Europe may be required.
