Job Summary:

In this role, you will manage the Singapore laboratory operation, lead, develop the laboratory team and contribute to the global laboratory initiatives and activities.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement the local laboratory strategy (laboratory resource, laboratory budget and Capex plan), in accordance with the global site lab strategy and local site strategy, based on local and global sample volume demand forecast.
  • Lead laboratory operations:
    • Manage the testing of all routine in-coming, & final release of materials & products
    • Manage regular monitoring testing of cleanrooms & water systems.
    • Manage all non-routine analyses requested by Production, Process departments & customers
    • Support audits (internal and external)
  • Lead and develop the laboratory personnel to maximize productivity & efficiency by building a strong team & morale. Recruit and ensure proper training of all lab staff.
  • Build up the YBB testing capacity in Singapore Laboratory and support the West network to perform YBB testing.
  • Maintain & improve quality systems in the laboratory - OOS, deviations, change control, documentation, and others.
  • Be responsible for maintaining the laboratory facilities, instrumentation, & chemical inventory for proper functioning of the laboratory, while maintaining quality and safety expectations.
  • Participate and support the locate site management and global lab activities.
  • Represent the Singapore Laboratory in projects and meetings on local, regional, and global level.
  • Lead and support test method transfers and implement global harmonized test methods.
  • Drive continuous improvement for laboratory processes with regards to efficiency, compliance, and safety.
  • Quality: The job holder is aware of his/her special responsibility for quality and conducts his/her activities in accordance with the Company quality policy at all times by (i) ensuring Good Manufacturing / Laboratory Practices are in place, (ii) ensuring all documents used are up-to-date and proper records are kept, (iii) ensuring compliance to GMP requirements for the laboratory, (iv) advancing best practices in Data Integrity.
  • SOP: The job holder is aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
  • Safety: The job holder is aware of his/her special responsibility towards health and safety in accordance with the company’s safety policy at all times by (i) ensuring safety rules are adhered to at all times, (ii) ensuring personnel in the laboratory are donned with the appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)
  • Lean: Support & contribute actively to the Lean Sigma Programs & activities towards delivery of the set target by (i) leading in lean initiatives in the laboratory, (ii) supporting lean initiatives in the plant
  • Any other relevant duties as assigned by the Regional Manager

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Master’s degree in chemistry or similar discipline
  • Minimum of 8 years’ experience in a pharmaceutical or biomedical industry or 10 years in laboratory management in manufacturing environment
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in leadership roles, including managing other leadership roles

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Familiarity with cGMP & GLP
  • Strong leadership qualities
  • Effective communication & interpersonal skills
  • Laboratory management experience in a chemical or pharmaceutical environment
  • Proficiency in English language (speak/read/write)
  • Basic understanding of microbiology beneficial
