Job Summary:

The Manager of Global Communications is responsible for executing proactive internal and external communication campaigns in support of West’s business interests and will serve as a designated media spokesperson for trade and local media in the Asia Pacific region.

 

The Manager of Global Communications will report directly to the Sr. Manager of Global Communications, Global Communications & Corporate Philanthropy function. The role will be matrixed reporting into the AP Leadership Team and work directly with the GM of Emerging Markets. The incumbent will work alongside colleagues within Global Communications, Marketing and HR to help to position West as a leader in the industry and an employer of choice to drive business results.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

Internal Communications

  • Execute internal communications campaigns to drive employee education and engagement around the business strategy, in conjunction with Global Communications business partner leads.
  • Develop and write internal communications (intranet articles, e-mails, etc.).
  • Partner with business unit heads and plants to understand their strategies and how best to communicate internally.
  • Plan special events designed to engage employees.
  • Drive engaging and educational content the Intranet, partnering with the business units, and with colleagues in Global Communications.

 

Public Relations & Community Affairs

  • Execute PR campaigns to position West and region as a leader in the industry, and help drive sales, in conjunction with Global Communications business partner leads.
  • Write press materials including byline articles (in partnership with Global Communications colleagues and agency partners).
  •  Serve as a media spokesperson and regional crisis leader when needed.
  • Plan special events designed to drive media and encourage stakeholder engagement, including any philanthropic activities/employee volunteer events.
  • Establish and execute the social media strategy and presence for the region

 

Marketing Communications

  • Manage West’s Chinese website, working in close collaboration with Digital Communications leader, as well as any other AP-region digital global communication needs.
  • In conjunction with the Marketing Communications Leader, work to execute global marketing materials and digital marketing communications, when needed.
  • Assist in the execution and promotion of trade shows in Asia-Pacific region, working with AP Marketing, alongside Global Communications, Event Management, as well as Commercial colleagues in the AP region.

 

 

Business Partnership, Budget Management & Agency Management

  • Serve as a communications advisor to local business leaders and provide counsel on how best to engage and communicate with employees and position the company locally with the media and other stakeholders (such as community groups).
  • Manage any relevant outside agencies and associated budget.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Degree in Communication (Public Relations), Marketing Communications and Journalism.
  • Minimum 8 years of related experience in Communications with increasing responsibility in a matrix and MNC environment with at least 3-5 years of people management experience

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Proven track record of management of strategic PR, marketing communications and internal communications programs in partnership with integrated marketing programs.
  • Prior experience in working in an international business setting with a diverse mix of stakeholders including executives/C-suite
  • Excellent English language and writing skills
  • Prior experience in managing senior executive communications
  • Top-tier media relations skills
  • Knowledge of Investor Relations
  • Digital/Social media communication skills
  • Budget management skills
  • Experienced in managing a PR agency and associated budget
  • Able to be aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to this position
  • Support and contribute in Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target
  • Able to comply with the company’s safety and quality policies at all times

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Up to 25% of domestic/regional and occasional global travels

 

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Ability to work within a matrixed global organization
  • Ability to take evening conference calls to cater to time zone differences
  • Sedentary - exerting up to 10lbs/4kgs of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to life, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body.  Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.  Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally, and all other sedentary criteria are met
