Job Summary:

The duty of the Technician is to operate the Automated Forming Cell (AFC) with minimal assistance from process engineering. The candidate must be able to work closely with maintenance and operations to ensure the continuous high-quality performance of the AFC and will need the courage and confidence to handle automated equipment with minimal to no supervision.

 

It is also in the responsibility of this position to ensure the site’s daily performance metrics are met and maintained by understanding the basic troubleshooting methods required to keep the cell actively running. In the event of an issue, this individual will be required to take immediate actions or escalate the issue to the responsible departments.

 

The use of good housekeeping practices will be required to maintain a clean, orderly, and safe operational area to produce the expected quality of product established by West.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate and properly line clear a dispersion enhancement system (DES gear pump), molding press, UTP, robotic arm, trim press, trim, and mold setup, rinser, CO2 blasting, Mawi camera and packing station.
  • Execute production activities according to SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures) and quality requirements.
  • Execute OCAP (Out of Control Action Plan) procedures and follow-up action items needed.
  • Able to identify/correct any minor issue and perform basic troubleshooting.
  • Operate and move the robot in the case of an unexpected incident/shutdown of the cell.
  • Accountable for selecting the correct recipe based on the production schedule.
  • Performs all daily, monthly, or yearly cleaning and PM of the AFC.
  • Identify quality issues and understands the basic troubleshooting procedure to correct each common defect and common alarms.
  • Able to identify and install/remove molds from the press when quality issues are present.
  • Able to identify and communicate the required removal of trim dies when quality issues are presents.
  • Need to be able to monitor, adjust and attend to several Auto Forming Cells simultaneously.
  • Aware of all relevant SOPs as per company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description.
  • Must be certified in all 3 levels of products with full (molding requirement) to deliver quality products.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Higher Nitec, Diploma or equivalent (e.g., trade cert) in automation, engineering, or other related fields…)
  • Minimum 3 years of automation manufacturing experience.
  • Willing and able to work as a team and make general decisions within authorized responsibility.
  • Preferred: cGMP knowledge/awareness.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude. (e.g., experience in autonomous maintenance, automation lines
  • Intermediate English proficiency level (equivalent to O-level/SPM)

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Preferred: Extensive knowledge of rubber manufacturing/automation equipment.
  • Capable of controlling the automated equipment.
  • Self-motivated and solution-oriented personality.
  • Good communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Eager to fully understand and take ownership of specified process area.
  • Ability/courage to successfully communicate with any required parties.
  • Able to work independently.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • No travelling needed.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

    •  
  • Physical (Medium) – exerting up to 50lb/22kg of force occasionally and/or up to 20lbs/9kg of force frequently, and/or up to 10lbs/4kgs of force constantly to move objects
  • Required to watch and listen for alarms (colored lights) on manufacturing equipment.   
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works near moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.  Hearing protection is always required.
  • Must follow and comply with Plant’s Dress and Hygiene Code (SOI).
  • Must follow and comply with all Company and Plant policies, procedure (SOIs), rules and State and Federal laws.
