In this role, you will collaborate and lead activities of the cross-functional teams comprising technical experts within the R&D function, as well as business unit leaders to design, execute, and launch new innovative products across West’s portfolio. You will be required to demonstrate creative skills in a dynamic environment together with a hands-on engineering attitude. You are also expected to participate in the development of multi-disciplinary products involving mechanical, plastic, and electronics design. Position requires knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts including the ability to create detailed drawings of designs and making tolerance analyses. Assignments are broad in nature, self-driven, requiring appreciable initiative, originality, ingenuity, and excellent problem-solving skills.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Development and design of products assembly, special tooling and fixtures
  • Making conceptual design, detailed design, CAD modeling and prototyping
  • Making design analyses including theoretical calculations for component fit, tolerance analysis and stress calculations
  • Procurement of commercial off-the-shelf components
  • Perform development testing and define product specs
  • Writing protocols, tests methods and presentations related to design activities
  • Performing and/or supervising testing of new and existing products, writing and/or approve tests reports
  • Support validation of products
  • Work closely with internal interfaces and external interfaces 
  • Managing subcontractors that support product development
  • Develops, executes, and documents project assignments working independently to meet committed timelines and project goals, and per established governance policies and guidelines.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.
  • Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.


Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent 
  • Minimum 5 years related experience in products design 
  • Proficiency in SolidWorks
  • Experience with design for manufacturability (DFM)
  • Experience in GD&T


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience with medical devices design and development process
  • Experience with medical industry standards
  • Knowledge in assembly processes
  • Experience with plastic injections, molds and parts design
  • Experience with sheet metal parts design
  • Experience in tolerance analysis methods and finite elemental analysis (FEA)
  • Experience with mechanism design 
  • Experience with verification tests 
  • Experience with writing design requirements, protocols, test reports etc


Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10-20 % of the time
