Job Summary:

In this role you will work closely with key leaders across the organization to drive actions that shape West’s Biologics portfolio and underpin our growth agenda. You will set the overarching inorganic strategy for the expansion of business for key markets, and lead specific execution projects to conceive, structure, market, and negotiate business and corporate development arrangements (i.e., development, licensing, partnerships).



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop with the VP/GM Biologics and commercial leadership team a comprehensive upside strategic plan inclusive of target market segments, product and technology needed for expansion, competitive landscape, acquisition, and business development initiatives, with a strong focus in advanced therapies (Cell and gene therapy, RNA therapeutics).
  • Coordinate strategic and practical utilization of the business development across all functions. Communicate vision and strategic plan to key stakeholders.
  • Employ effective project management methodologies; organize cross-functional teams to support the deal pipeline.  Establish clear deal milestones and ensure disciplined decision-making.
  • Work collaboratively with key functional leaders to complete the opportunity assessment, due diligence, valuation, negotiating strategy, deal structure, and negotiations for key initiatives.  Assemble and effectively utilize internal and external resources (as necessary) to support deals
  • Develop and manage a robust pipeline of deals and partnerships.  Comprehensive business and financial assessment of new technologies and/or products and/or companies for potential opportunities. Build analytical models and perform financial analyses, comprehensively value opportunities, provide clear explanations, and make well-founded recommendations to top management.
  • Support market and product strategies through the advancement of external partnerships.
  • Create visibility in market circles and position the company as a good deal partner and service provider.  Continually seek new opportunities. Maintain a strong network of industry contacts; continually seek competitive intelligence.  Actively participate in relevant industry meetings.


Basic Qualifications: 

  • Superior academic track record with bachelor’s degree in business administration or commerce, MBA background preferred
  • 10+ years healthcare industry experience as a leader in marketing or business development, preferably in biologics industry.
  • Preferably a master or Ph.D degree in a life science or related discipline
  • Demonstrated success in managing a business development organization in a leading/successful healthcare company.
  • Wide experience in all aspects of business development from evaluation, through to negotiating and securing deals.
  • A good understanding of pharma, biotech and MedTech industries. This executive will have experience working cross-functionally with R&D, finance, legal and commercial organizations, to formulate business development strategy and drive organic/inorganic growth. 


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Healthcare environment, especially for Biologics industry
  • Strong analytical, negotiating, and business agreement skills.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills
  • Entrepreneurial; willing to take a fresh look at how to achieve strategic objectives, and comfortable with the level of risk involved in building an emerging business
  • Strong collaborative skills with ability to be effective.
  • Result-oriented, decisive, and confident
  • Demonstrate curiosity about the activities of competitors and keep abreast of what transactions or thinking is transforming the marketplace.
  • Demonstrated poise, particularly under stressful conditions
  • Proficiency in English language is a must.
  • Able to comply with the company’s safety and quality policy at all times.


Travel Requirements:

  • At least 10% domestic travels and infrequent travels within the region and global
