Job Summary:

In this role, the Laboratory Technician will work under the direction of the Lab Supervisor, perform various testing throughout product lifecycle, from initial concept tests, feasibility, engineering, R&D, process validation, and design verification testing activities. The individual will bring excellent analytical, technical, and organizational talent to the execution of development projects at West. 



Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Working according to Lab procedures.
  2. Prepares test samples according to work instructions and procedures for testing.
  3. Follows protocols required for Feasibility, Engineering, Design Verification testing and recording data.
  4. Performs and documents engineering and verification testing activities under the supervision of the Lab Supervisor for a product (or product family).
  5. Participates in the execution of Gage R&R and qualification of engineering test fixtures, assembly fixtures, test methods used in the development process.
  6. Experienced in the use of laboratory equipment, such as tensile/compression/torque testing machines (Testometric, Instron), Magnifying Glass, Analytical Balance, Digital Pipette, Viscometer, Data Logger, Environmental Chamber, etc.
  7. Performs regularly scheduled general preventative maintenance activities on laboratory tools, equipment, and machinery.
  8. Assist the Lab engineering team in the development of test methods, work instructions, and other as required.
  9. Accustomed to using current Good Laboratory Practices and Good Documentation Practices.
  10. Creates necessary documentation in support of assigned activities in compliance with West QMS.
  11. Identifies and resolves potential safety hazards. Maintains a clean, neat, and safe work environment.
  12. Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.
  13. Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.
  14. Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance.
  15. Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.



Basic Qualifications: 

  • Education: Technician\ Practical Engineer diploma
  • Experience: A similar experience from a medical device company- an advantage

Preferred Knowledge, languages, Skills and Abilities:

  1. Technical experience performing testing on medical devices.
  2. This position requires a highly organized person with work ethic.
  3. Proficient in MS Office suite including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook.
  4. Must be able to perform job duties as required with limited physical demands.
  5. Must be able to work assigned shift(s) with overtime as required to complete assignments if necessary.
