Job Summary
In this role, the Laboratory Student will work under the direction of the Lab Supervisor, perform various testing throughout product lifecycle, from initial concept tests, feasibility, engineering, R&D, process validation, and design verification testing activities. The individual will bring excellent analytical, technical, and organizational talent to the execution of development projects at West.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Working according to Lab procedures. Accustomed to using current Good Laboratory Practices and Good Documentation Practices.
- Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
- Prepares test samples according to work instructions and procedures for testing.
- Follows protocols required for Feasibility, Engineering, Design Verification testing and recording data.
- Performs and documents engineering and verification testing activities under the supervision of the Lab Supervisor for a product (or product family).
- Participates in the execution of Gage R&R and qualification of engineering test fixtures, assembly fixtures, test methods used in the development process.
- Experienced in the use of laboratory equipment, such as tensile/compression/torque testing machines (Testometric, Instron), Magnifying Glass, Analytical Balance, Digital Pipette, Viscometer, Data Logger, Environmental Chamber, etc.
- Performs regularly scheduled general preventative maintenance activities on laboratory tools, equipment, and machinery.
- Assist the Lab engineering team in the development of test methods, work instructions, and other as required.
- Creates necessary documentation in support of assigned activities in compliance with West QMS.
Education
- Education: Technician\ Practical Engineer diploma\ Student for relevant file
Work Experience
- A similar experience from a medical device company- an advantage
License and Certifications
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Technical experience performing testing on medical devices.
- This position requires a highly organized person with work ethic.
- Proficient in MS Office suite including PowerPoint, Word, Excel and Outlook.
- Must be able to perform job duties as required with limited physical demands.
- Must be able to work assigned shift(s) with overtime as required to complete assignments if necessary.
- Relevant work history and/or experience may be considered in lieu of degree.
No Travel Requirements

Physical Requirements
Sedentary-Exerting up to 10lbs/4kgs of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.
