Job Summary:

The Sr. Elastomer Engineering Technician will engage in a variety of development projects involving prototyping and testing of products for life cycle management and sustaining of West’s core elastomeric component business unit. Key responsibilities include solving technical problems during protype manufacturing and testing, assisting R&D engineers in executing activities related to new product development and existing product evaluation, and effectively communicating results and conclusions to essential project team members.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Work with R&D Component, Containment, and Packaging Systems teams to develop, test, and manufacture products/processes related to the development, life cycle management, and sustaining of West’s core business (e.g., elastomeric components, pharmaceutical processing, packaging, and containment systems).
  • Prepare work instructions, SOPs, and qualification documentation.
  • Build and set up test equipment to support testing, data collection, and analysis according to protocols.
  • Accurately and concisely document activities performed, test dates, test data, and observations according to protocols and applicable procedures.
  • Troubleshoot product designs, processes, and study protocols; overcome problems that may not have been anticipated during design or test method development.
  • Coordinate availability of resources/materials required for assigned projects.
  • Installation of new equipment, generating appropriate IQ/OQ/PQ documentation.
  • Perform in-process inspections and create documentation as necessary.
  • Coordinate/perform maintenance and calibration of equipment.
  • Perform electronic transactions for inventory control, process documentation, and data collections.
  • Provide training to other technicians as necessary.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instructions, and safety rules.
  • Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual, and predictable attendance.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Education or Equivalent Experience: High School or equivalent. Associate degree in a technical field (Chemistry/Biology/Engineering) a plus.
  • Experience: 3-5 years of experience
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office applications (e.g. Word, Excel, PowerPoint.) SAP experience a plus.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in manufacturing processing (prefer broad exposure and experience in molding, finishing, packaging, and equipment maintenance.
  • Experience and familiarity with electronic and mechanical manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience in the field of elastomer prototyping and/or manufacturing.
  • Works well in a fast-paced environment, with minimal supervision and guidance.
  • Track record of proven mechanical ability and troubleshooting skills is desired.
  • Perform analysis using various techniques including established and experimental test methods, statistical methods, and good documentation skills. 

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel 5-10% of the time to regional facilities to support projects and training.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Heavy – exerting up to 100lbs/45kg of force occasionally and/or up to 50lb/22kg of force frequently, and/or up to 20lbs/9kg of force constantly to move objects.
