Job Summary:

In this role, you will support and facilitate the health, safety and environmental (HSE) programs in the Exton H.Q., Exon Analytical laboratory, Radnor R&D laboratory and the Upper Darby tooling facility.  Using your familiarity with laboratory HSE support services, you will be responsible for developing and delivering laboratory training content, writing procedures and programs, submitting compliance report data, and conducting equipment, procedure, and process risk assessments.  You will serve as the HSE technical expert in chemical, biological, radiological, and general safety requirements as they influence operations for the laboratories and headquarters buildings.  This role will lead and facilitate similar activities at the Upper Darby tooling site as well.

 

This role will be based at the Exton H.Q., although it will require regularly scheduled day trips each week to the Radnor laboratory and Upper Darby tooling shop.  The travel schedule will be self-directed, overall, based upon the needs of each site.  The schedule will be similar to: 

  • 1-2 days/week at the Exton site supporting the Corporate Analytical lab and H.Q. activities.
  • 1-2 days/week at the Radnor laboratory site providing safety support to the R&D team.
  • 1 day/week (on average) supporting the Upper Darby tooling site.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implement and provide guidance related to local HSE programs and plans, including but not limited to Chemical Hygiene Plan, Bloodborne Pathogens Plan, Emergency Action Plan, Radiation Safety Manual, Biosafety Manual, and Waste Management Plan.
  • Provide guidance and consultation to ensure compliance with OSHA, PA DEP, EPA, DOT, FAA and other federal, state, and local health, safety, and environmental requirements, as applicable.
  • Prepare and review HSE programs and procedures applicable to the site to ensure compliance with regulatory requirements and company expectations.
  • Conduct safety reviews for new drug product testing requests.
  • Proactively identify and mitigate hazards to promote a safe and healthy workplace. 
  • Perform & facilitate incident investigations, root cause analysis, and assign corrective actions using recognized techniques and systems.
  • Add and assign training into the learning management system. Conduct HSE related training for employees including regulatory training, West required training and job specific HSE training.
  • Maintain hazardous waste and emergency response, as well as environmental testing contracts and relationships with vendors.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to train.
  • Strong planning and organizational skills.
  • Capable of using Microsoft Office Suite, SharePoint, and other software applications.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, or a related physical science.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in health and safety or science-related field.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 5 years’ experience as an HSE professional.
  • Able to work independently and prioritize duties and tasks.
  • Able to effectively communicate, influence, and negotiate with stakeholders. 
  • Able to understand safety integration into lab processes and technical operations.
  • Chemical Hygiene Officer, CHO designation preferred.  CSP or CIH certification a plus.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • The willingness to travel between the Exton H.Q., Radnor Laboratory, and the Upper Darby Tooling Shop on a weekly basis (Exton > Radnor ~30 min.  Exton > Upper Darby ~30 min).
  • Occasional travel to global laboratories and facilities may be required, up to 10% of the time.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to sit and stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift and manipulate 30lbs.
