 Job Summary:

1.  creation and representation of technical information that promotes:  (a) differentiated market position, (b) sales, (c) adoption of higher-value products, (d) recognition as scientific destination and thought leader, and

2.  management/mentoring of staff in said creation (including analytical studies) and representation

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

 

General 

1.  promote differentiated West business position through creation and representation of technical information, in particular relating to component and system performance, namely plungers, syringe systems, and self-injection devices

 2.  manage staff in said creation and representation

Specific:

  • serve as subject matter expert regarding syringes, cartridges, and self-injection devices
  • identify, prioritize, and manage undertaking of component and system projects (including analytical studies) based upon in-development and commercial product scientific needs
  • manage and oversee studies:  writing protocols, negotiating resources/timing, sample sourcing, ensuring timely completion, writing reports, and intergroup collaborations (Product Management, Marketing, and R&D)
  • create and edit scientific publications (articles, posters, presentations, blogs)
  • serve as a resource for complex problem solving and product enablement with customer-assigned projects
  • contribute to corporate scientific review process
  • represent West externally in industry groups and thought leadership
  • gather market intelligence and effectively represent to key stakeholders
  • serve as subject matter expert in a business critical area (e.g., standards, regulations, and application thereof to West products)

 

Basic Qualifications 

  • Education or Equivalent:
    • Bachelors in a technical field (Chemistry, Biology, Engineering, Materials Science, Packaging) with at least 12 years experience.  Masters in a technical field with at least 5 years experience.  Doctorate in a technical field with at least 3 years experience.
    • Graduate degree preferred.
  • Experience:  8 years minimum.  Record as principal author of external publications/presentations preferred.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

            Scientific/Technical

  • understanding of syringes, cartridges, and self-injection devices to enable:
  • testing according to industry benchmark standards and novel or new methods
  • understanding of interdependencies and integration of components, systems, and devices, including design space and usability ranges
  • ability to manage/mentor staff in:
    • writing project protocols
    • execution of projects
    • writing project reports
  • ability to create high-quality scientific publications (articles, posters, presentations, blogs)
  • ability to deliver effective presentations
  • ability to survey literature, conferences, etc. and extract information relevant to West business (opportunity and threat), and conceive/promote strategy based thereon
  • expertise in plungers, syringe systems, and self-injection/wearable systems
  • proficiency in Word/Excel/PowerPoint
  • English fluency
  • participation in industry-related councils Able to be aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
  • Support and contribute in Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target
  • Able to comply with the company’s safety policy at all times
  • Able to comply with the company’s quality policy at all times.
