Job Summary:

Under the general direction of the Director, Logistics and Trade Compliance, the Manager, Trade Compliance is responsible for the performance and improvement of West’s Global adherence to global trade related compliance requirements.  The position will manage a global team of trade compliance specialists and will lead and implement projects related to compliance improvements, import/export efficiencies and duty optimization programs.  The Manager, Trade Compliance will oversee the implementation of new cross-border trade lanes and will provide oversight of and assistance for country and site-specific cross border issue escalation and resolution. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for managing a Global Trade Compliance team, including people management (2-4 potential direct reports with future expansion possible), talent development, & budget responsibility
  • Responsible for ensuring West import and export declarations adhere to applicable SOP’s to minimize compliance exposure and to optimize costs
  • Oversee development of West global trade compliance manuals and procedures, including distribution and training management
  • Works with West sites, 3rd party service providers, and customs broker(s) to resolve issues and questions that arise regarding day-to-day customs entries and export declarations
  • Is responsible for maintaining and auditing trade compliance related codes such as HTS, export control codes, Partner Government Agency codes, and other compliance related master data for imported and exported products
  • Implement and manage document recordkeeping programs to ensure West meets or exceeds government standards         
  • Prepares, submits and maintains customs and other government agency audit and inquiry responses
  • Identifies, designs and implements duty optimization programs such as use of Free Trade Agreements, bonded warehouses, and free trade zones
  • Conducts post-entry audits---Coordinate any Post Entry Corrections, where necessary, with West-designated Customs Broker.
  • Participates in and supports operational projects involving or impacting Trade Compliance at West facilities (e.g. systems implementations, new business models, etc.)
  • Participates in cost-saving and process improvement initiatives for Trade Compliance activities
  • Provides Customs Broker performance measurement and oversight globally
  • Other duties as assigned



Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business Management, Supply Chain or Logistics curriculum, or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 8 years of progressive experience in global trade compliance role(s)
  • Import/Export Operations experience
  • Practical experience with reading, interpreting and applying complex government regulations
  • SAP user experience and knowledge


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Licensed U.S Customs Broker
  • Significant import/export operational experience
  • Understanding of end-to-end logistics processes
  • Experience in reporting KPIs with leading indicators
  • Experience in managing cross-functional, international projects
  • Proven to possess highly developed project management skills
  • Working knowledge of supplier relationship management, contract management
  • Strong communication, presentation, decision making and negotiation skills
  • Extensive acumen in problem solving, managing priorities and commitment to quality & safety
  • Strong intercultural skills to facilitate successful interactions in international markets
  • Able to be aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
  • Support and contribute in Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target
  • Able to always comply with the company’s safety policy
  • Able to always comply with the company’s quality policy


Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time
