Job Summary:

In this role, you will assist qualified toolmakers with the maintenance and repair of all moulds, jigs and fixtures in operation at West. You will work under the direct supervision of a qualified toolmaker and report to the Toolroom Supervisor. The Apprentice Toolmaker will also fulfil all the requirements and college block release training modules as directed by Solas in order to achieve fully qualified Toolmaker status.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Adhere to all Health and Safety requirements (OHSAS 18001).
  • Accurately maintain own training record as per schedule.
  • Follow the directions of assigned trainer / mentor.
  • Highlight to supervisor any training deficiencies.
  • Ensure assigned moulds are serviced as per schedules.
  • Compliance to all site Environmental, Health and Safety requirements training, and regulations.
  • Compliance to all local site company policies, procedures, and corporate policies.
  • Act in accordance with the company’s guiding principles and adherence to the corporate Code of Conduct.
  • Perform additional duties at the request of the direct supervisor.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Apprentices must have a minimum of grade D in any five subjects in the Leaving Certificate or equivalent.
  • Be able to work in a fast-paced environment.
  • Possess good communication skills, both oral and written.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • A team player who works well with colleagues.
  • Show good initiative and be a self-starter.
  • Proficient IT Skills.
  • Good attention to detail and strong ability to learn new techniques, systems, and technologies.
  • Ability to interact well with fellow colleagues, suppliers, and customers.
  • Previous experience of working within a similar busy manufacturing environment.
  • Previous toolroom experience advantageous.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time including off-site training modules.
  • May be requested to travel to external toolmakers to assist in the development and/or testing of new tooling.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:

Physical requirements:

  • Heavy - exerting up to 100lbs/45kg of force occasionally and/or up to 50lb/22kg of force frequently, and/or up to 20lbs/9kg of force constantly to move objects.
  • Job-related activities that require physical activity:
    • Must be able to stand/walk for periods of up to 4 hours between rest periods.
    • Must be able to lift equipment and tools up to 25kg up to 10 times per day.
    • Must be able to climb up and down stepladders/stairs up to 10 times per day.

Mental requirements:

    • Ability to reason logically and make sound decisions, to consider alternative and diverse perspectives and to communicate effectively both orally and in writing,
    • Ability to simultaneously address multiple complex problems.
    • Ability to work as an integral part of a team.
    • Ability to work under pressure.
    • Ability to understand, remember and follow verbal and written instructions.
    • Ability to complete assigned tasks without direct supervision.
