Job Summary:

Reporting to the Director, Device Manufacturing Technology, this role is responsible for contributing to the development and implementation of the business manufacturing strategy. This role is responsible for the identification, evaluation and subsequent implementation of new technologies or capabilities to West to meet or exceed the requirements of new product introductions, process advancements or to improve operational efficiency. This role will have functional responsibility for Automation Controls through the global network as necessary and appropriate.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for leading/managing key activities within the Global Device Engineering Group specifically related to Automation Controls. 
  • Responsible for the identification, evaluation and subsequent recommendation of new technologies which may add value or capabilities to West.
  • Work with internal stakeholders to understand business needs and translate to technical strategies
  • Manage new equipment process and product introduction projects working alongside various functions.
  • In close coordination with Dir, Glbl Device Manufacturing & Technology, contributes to the development and implementation of the automation controls strategy to meet the needs of West and our customers.
  • Establish and manage project teams, identifying deliverables, time and cost, setting priorities and reporting to meet the needs of the business and the customer.
  • Manage relationships with internal and external customers and equipment suppliers in pursuit of new business, manufacturing process development, continuous improvement and on-going business development.
  • Represent West at customer meetings to ensure that the needs of the business are met.
  • Manage equipment suppliers ensuring delivery meets specification, cost and time.
  • Ensure that new equipment meets the regulatory requirements of the business. Validation, health and safety etc.
  • Work with all departments across the business to ensure that new processes meet their requirements.
  • Identify, specify and introduce new manufacturing methods and opportunities into the company
  • Assist with the training and development of personnel at all levels of West on new processes or systems introduced to the company.
  • Execute full lifecycle software/systems development.
  • Design data architecture for manufacturing processes.
  • Continuously improve standards, tooling, and processes.
  • Support and lead tasks within the PDP; following West’s standards for Project Governance Management and Quality Systems requirements
  • Provide support to existing facilities production line for continuous improvement and best practice alignment.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must have a minimum of a Bachelor of Engineering (preferably a concentration in Electrical/Mechanical or Automation/Robotics Engineering)
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience in progressive roles related to automation and controls with at least 3 years of experience in technical project management.
  • Role appropriate knowledge of manufacturing automation, machine design, development and validation process.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have high level, practical knowledge of manufacturing controls system and standards, example: PLCs, Manufacturing Execution Systems, ERP solutions and Industrial Network Architecture.
  • Must have a proven track record in managing and delivering complex automation systems. 
  • Good understanding on GAMP 5 guidelines will also be an advantage.
  • Preferably worked in either the medical, packaging or technological industries with a good understanding of the regulatory requirements and exposure to serialization.
  • Possess the ability to work appropriately with customers.
  • Able to be aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
  • Support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target
  • Able to comply with the company’s safety policy at all times
  • Able to comply with the company’s quality policy at all times.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 25% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
