Job Summary:

Reporting directly to the Site Engineering Manager (Operations) this role is responsible for driving Process engineering / Injection moulding manufacturing activities within the operations department and contributing to the development and implementation of the business manufacturing strategy. This role is responsible for managing a team of high performing Engineers and Technicians. Working closely with the West Global Engineering team, this role is responsible managing and leading the validation and ramp up of new injection moulding and tooling programs to meet the requirements of customers and West. Optimising operational efficiency and driving continuous improvement to meet customer and West demands is also key to this role.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage and empower a high performing team of Engineers and Technicians to deliver the defined business goals & objectives in terms of Safety, Quality, Cost and Delivery.

  • Identification and development of talent to include team organizational design, training and development of team, performance management and succession planning in order to support the Value stream structure at West Dublin.

  • Establish strong relationships (along with senior engineers within the team) with the customers to understand and meet the needs of all customers at West Dublin.

  • Work closely with both Customer and equipment vendors in pursuit of new business, product development, manufacturing process development, continuous improvement and on-going business development.

  • Responsible for managing key activities and projects within the operations Process Engineering / moulding department.

  • Manage new equipment process and product introduction projects working with the Global Engineering team as well as site maintenance and tooling teams.

  • Develop and implement manufacturing strategy to meet customer and West needs.

  • Establish and manage project teams, identifying deliverables, time and cost, setting priorities and reporting to meet the needs of the business and the customer.

  • Represent West at customer meetings to ensure that the needs of the business are met.

  • Take the role of technical expert in the field of moulding and develop the understanding and competency of the business to meet the requirements of customers.

  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Must have a minimum suitable Engineering Degree (Degree in Polymer Engineering, Mechanical or manufacturing Engineering or related field)

  • Must have at least 8years experience in a Manufacturing or Moulding technical role.

  • Must be a technical leader and have demonstrated expertise in Injection Moulding process development and validation as well as trouble shooting and problem resolution.

  • Must have experience in leading a professional and technical team. Must have the ability maximise the performance of that team identifying gaps and development needs of the team and constantly working to bridge those gaps.

  • Must be able to identify future skills required in the team to meet the evolving strategic needs of the business and ensure the team is prepared to meet those needs.

  • Must have experience in dealing with customers and cross functional teams, internally and externally at all levels.

  • Must be able to organise and prioritise and delegate (where appropriate) both important and urgent tasks and projects to ensure short and long term deliverables are achieved.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Preferably worked in either the medical, packaging or technological industries with a good understanding of the regulatory requirements.

  • Possesses excellent presentation and communications skills with the ability to articulate complex technical problems and solutions to non-engineering groups.

  • Demonstrable experience participating in technical teams, preparing technical reports and make recommendations with limited available information.

  • Possesses strong technical knowledge and can work on complex issues and analysing large volumes of data.

  • Must be able to work independently on own projects while working concurrently with all departments and levels of employees.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time.

 

Physical and Mental Requirements:                                 

Physical:

  • Medium - exerting up to 50lb/22kg of force occasionally and/or up to 20lbs/9kg of force frequently, and/or up to 10lbs/4kgs of force constantly to move objects.

  • Job-related activities that require physical activity:

  • Must be able to stand/walk for periods of up to 4 hours between rest periods.

  • Must be able to lift equipment and tools up to 25kg up to 10 times per day.

  • Must be able to climb up and down stepladders/stairs up to 10 times per day.

Mental:

  • Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

  • Must be able to organize and prioritize tasks; must be detail orientated and self-motivated.

  • Must be able to deal with all levels of employees and work across various departments.

  • Must be able to work independently on own projects while working concurrently with all departments.

  • Establishes relationships with the customers and Equipment/ Raw Material suppliers in pursuit of continuous improvement and on-going business development.

When absent from the site duties and responsibilities will be delegated to the following designates.
