In this role, you will carry out various Toolmaking activities and set/operate various CNC, NC and manual machines in the manufacture, assembly, maintenance and repair of plastic injection & elastomer moulds, press-tools and other tooling components.

You will demonstrate a proactive mindset for process development, assist in increasing automation and utilisation of equipment, support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities, whilst supporting colleagues, Section Leaders and Managers to meet quality, delivery and cost objectives.

 

You will comply with the company’s safety, environmental and quality policies at all times.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Set & operate CNC/NC lathes, mills, surface & cylindrical grinders, EDM & WEDM
  • Set & operate conventional/manual surface & cylindrical grinders
  • Final assembly activities and processes for new plastic and elastomer injection moulds
  • Problem solving, repair, maintenance and modification of existing plastic and elastomer injection moulds
  • Occasional final assembly activities and processes for new elastomer moulds & press-tools
  • Occasional problem solving, repair, maintenance and modification of existing elastomer moulds & press-tools
  • Provide technical support to design & production contractors and site CADCAM & production staff
  • Comply with all corporate and local site Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures and regulations
  • Comply with all machine instructions and ensure proper use of equipment and assets
  • Comply with all process work instructions, control plans, maintenance and safety schedules
  • Read, understand & interpret Engineering drawings correctly
  • Act in accordance with the Company’s Code of Conduct and Guiding Principles
  • Report any near miss accidents, incidents or HSE irregularities
  • Ensure that your work area(s) are always kept clean and tidy
  • Ensure your PPE is used and maintained correctly
  • Demonstrate a proactive mindset for process development
  • Ensure maximum OEE through effective prioritisation and use of automation
  • Support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities
  • Support the business in meeting all quality, delivery and cost objectives
  • Report issues, problems or irregularities beyond your control to the appropriate person
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Required: Formal engineering apprenticeship to NVQ3 level (or C&G equivalent)
  • Desirable: Formal engineering apprenticeship to HNC level (or C&G equivalent)

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Required:
    • Extensive experience in plastic injection mould manufacture
    • Extensive experience in NC & conventional Toolroom machinery
      • Mills, Lathes, Surface Grinders & Cylindrical Grinders
    • Familiarity and experience of use of measuring equipment
    • Familiarity and experience of interpreting Engineering drawings

 

  • Desirable:
    • Experience in elastomer injection mould, elastomer compression mould and press-tool manufacture
    • Experience in on-machine programming, setting and operation of CNC Toolroom machinery
      • Mills, Lathes, Surface Grinders, Cylindrical Grinders, EDM & WEDM
    • Experience in setting and operation of CNC Jig Grinders
    • Experienced in offline programming & part verification
    • Experience in operation of CMMs (Co-Ordinate Measuring Machines)
    • Familiarity and experience of tool-design (mould & press-tool)
    • Experienced and conversant PC user
    • Experience of “Lean Manufacturing” techniques
