Job Summary
The Process Engineering Intern will support manufacturing process optimization, assist with equipment troubleshooting, and perform data analysis to improve operational performance. This role offers hands-on experience in a manufacturing environment, focusing on enhancing efficiency, safety, and quality. The intern will work under the guidance of experienced engineers to deliver tangible improvements in manufacturing throughput.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Process Improvement & Optimization: Assist in evaluating existing manufacturing processes to identify bottlenecks and efficiency opportunities using Lean/Six Sigma methodologies (e.g., 5S, Kaizen).
- Data Analysis & Reporting: Collect, analyze, and report on production data related to cycle times, yield, downtime, and scrap reduction.
- Troubleshooting & Support: Assist with root cause analysis and troubleshooting of equipment, electrical, or mechanical issues on the production floor.
- Documentation & Standards: Update or develop standard operating procedures (SOPs), process flow diagrams (PFDs), and piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs).
- Project Support: Support engineering trials for new equipment, material testing, or product launches.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education
- Education: Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s program for Plastics and Polymers, Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or related field.
- Standing: Junior or Senior level preferred
Work Experience
- No min required 1 year experience in manufacturing environment and understanding of good manufacturing practices. preferred
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of the basic principles of injection molding, systematic molding, mold design, mold assembly, and machine operations.
- Proficiency with PC and Microsoft Office
- Working knowledge of SPC and Minitab software.
- Strong attention to detail; Strong problem identification/analysis and solving skills with hands-on approach.
- Good verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment; Ability to interface with all personnel levels.
- Motivated self-starter with ability to work independently on multiple assignments in a team environment.
- Ability/courage to successfully communicate with any required parties.
- Able to always comply with the company’s safety policy

- Must be able to build strong relationships with peers and direct labor employees.
- While performing the duties of this job on the production floor, the employee regularly stands, walks, talks, and hears.
- Noise level in the work environment while on the production floor is usually moderate to loud. Hearing protection is required.
- Must be self-motivated, must have excellent people skills, written and verbal communication, problem solving, coaching, training, relationship building, managing resistance and project management skills.
- Must follow and comply with all Company and Plant policies, procedure (SOIs), rules and State and Federal laws
