This is a fully onsite position, day shift with on call responsibilities. All candidates should live within a 50 mile commutable distance to the Williamsport, PA location. 

Job Summary

Responsibilities will include the leadership of the hourly maintenance personnel in a safe and efficient manner while ensuring minimal downtime and impact on production.  This individual will be responsible for planning maintenance activities and to oversee maintenance functions such as preventative maintenance, repairs, new equipment installation, and process improvements.  Plan, direct, and supervise by providing guidance and feedback, fostering ownership and removing barriers.  Responsible and accountable for adherence to procedures, quality, production, maintenance, safety and schedules on assigned shifts; promote effective team member/company relations to help improve customer service. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    • Manages the equipment safety and preventative maintenance programs in accordance with West and OSHA requirements.
    • Coordinates with Scheduling Planners and Operations to ensure that all preventive maintenance activities are scheduled and completed.
    • Supervise a multiple shift team in the maintenance and installation of pharmaceutical equipment consistent with high quality standards.
    • Initiates work orders and ensure the work is performed in a safe manner.
    • Runs daily maintenance planning and coordination meetings to help prioritize scheduled work.
    • Provides technical assistance and creative thinking during planning and coordination meetings to deliver the most cost-effective solutions to mechanical and electrical issues.
    • Ensures that downtime preventive maintenance programs or permanent mechanical equipment modifications are put in place to address the “root cause(s)” of downtime and quality issues.
    • Provides leadership with the implementation of problem-solving strategies and execution of key performance objectives in the department.
    • Mentor and coach and help develop technical mastery of operations/maintenance personnel on fundamentals, skill development, scheduling, an all aspects of maintenance.
    • When needed, assist workers in diagnosing malfunctions in machinery and equipment.
    • Studies production schedules and estimates hourly work requirements for completion of job assignment.  Discusses workload and priorities with supervisor as necessary as it relates to backlog and resources.
    • Interprets specifications, blueprints, and job orders to workers, and assigns duties.
    • Establishes or adjust work procedures to meet production schedules (such as vacation coverage).
    • Recommends measures to improve production methods, equipment performance, and quality of product.
    • Suggest changes in working conditions and use of equipment to increase efficiency of shop, department, work crew or production.
    • Analyzes and resolves work problems or assists workers in solving work problems.
    • Contact manufacturers to get information needed to diagnose problems and/or secure parts.
    • Manage outside contractors, scheduling, training, contracts, insurance certificate and follow-up
    • Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
    • Oversee technical support and training for all manufacturing equipment.
    • Write procedures for employees on various jobs and equipment.  Train and record as necessary.
    • Provide leadership in developing teams, succession planning and advanced training programs suited for developing West maintenance team members.
    • Responsible for performing and overseeing the overall operation, maintenance, repair, construction, and property management of the buildings and associated grounds which includes building structures and equipment (plumbing, electrical and HVAC), irrigation systems and landscape.
    • Be involved with the installation and training on new equipment.
    • Observe work being performed by maintenance, engineers and contractors  to ensure quality, timelines and maintenance goals are met.
    • Be able to comprehend electrical wiring diagrams and their logic, pneumatic drawings, and other facilities technical information.
    • Actively participate and comply with all West HSE programs and regulations.
    • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment in accordance with West 6S program.

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree; Electrical, Electronic, Mechanical, Automation or Industrial Engineering or 5+ years related experience in a manufacturing environment.

Work Experience

  • 5+ years of experience in automation background. Related experience in diagnosing and maintaining injection molding and injection blow molding machines and technical management a plus.
  • 3+ years of management experience.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

    • Must be familiar with computers and various software programs.
    • Familiarity with SAP, Master Control or similar systems and databases, a plus.
    • Good communication skills, the ability to prioritize and assign resources in a fast-moving environment.
    • Good analytical skills.
    • Ability to work both independently with little direction, and as a member of a team.
    • Ability to manage several projects at once to meet established timelines is essential.
    • Able to comply with the company’s safety policy at all times.
    • Able to comply with the company’s quality policy at all times.

Travel Requirements

5%: Up to 13 business days per year

Physical Requirements

Medium-Exerting up to 50lb/22kg of force occasionally and/or up to 20lbs/9kg of force frequently, and/or up to 10lbs/4kgs of force constantly to move objects.

Additional Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, see and use hands and finger to operate office equipment (ie phones, computers, copies, etc.).
  • Sitting and/or standing for extended periods may occur as well as getting to and from offices and building sites.
  • The ability to be able to lift and carry various items up to 40 pounds.
  • The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions and fumes or airborne particles.
  • The employee occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and or equipment.
  • The noise level in the office work environment is usually quiet. The noise level in the manufacturing work environment is moderate to loud. Hearing protection is required at all times in the manufacturing work environment.
  • Job requires mental skill or ability such as communication, decision making (sometimes quick), interpreting data, reading or writing, organization, problem solving, understand direction, supervise and speak publicly, etc.
