Job Summary
An entry-level Facilities Maintenance job involves basic upkeep, repairs, and inspections across various building systems like plumbing, electrical, and HVAC, focusing on general cleanliness, preventative tasks (e.g., changing filters/bulbs), minor carpentry, groundskeeping, and responding to work orders to ensure a safe, functional environment, often assisting senior technicians.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- General Repairs: Fixing doors, walls, furniture, and other structural elements.
- Plumbing: Addressing minor leaks, clogs, and fixture issues.
- Electrical: Replacing lightbulbs, troubleshooting minor wiring, and checking systems.
- HVAC: Changing filters, assisting with system checks, and ensuring climate control.
- Grounds: Trash removal, snow removal and salting (sidewalks, steps and pedestrian walkways), and minor lawn/landscaping upkeep.
- Inspections: Conducting routine walkthroughs to spot potential hazards or needed repairs.
- Work Orders: Responding to and completing assigned maintenance requests.
- Safety: Identifying and fixing potential safety hazards.
- Actively participate and comply with all West HSE programs and regulations.
- Maintain a neat and orderly work environment in accordance with West 5S program.
- Other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities
- Maintain and promote a safe and clean work environment throughout the maintenance department
- Instruct, train, guide and assist other maintenance personnel as needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.
- Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.
- Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED required. Industrial or trade school graduation or certification is preferred.
Work Experience
- Minimum of 1-2 years of full-time experience in construction, maintenance, and/or facilities systems, including the use of hand and power tools.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
- Basic knowledge of building systems.
- Ability to use hand and power tools.
- Strong problem-solving and communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Detail-oriented and organized.
- Able to be aware of all relevant standard operating procedures as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
- Support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target.
- Able to comply with the company’s safety policy at all times.
- Able to comply with the company’s quality policy at all times.

- Must be able to wear and use a full-face respirator
- Stand and walk for 12 hours per shift
- Willing to work overtime as needed
- Frequent bilateral grip/grasp and manual dexterity work required
- Frequent bending and twisting, squatting, pushing and pulling and working at elevated heights and in confined spaces as required by the job
- Must be able to tolerate industrial odors, heat and high temperatures, and smells on a frequent basis
