ob Summary:

Responsible to lead and drive continuous improvement, solve tooling and personnel problems, manage, mentor and lead Tooling engineers, toolroom lead and mold makers’ team while promoting a positive, safe, and productive work environment. Adheres to West development standards, including projects requiring minimum standards of control and review of the customer.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  •  Provides direct supervision, resolves personnel issues, writes performance evaluations and determines direct reports compensation, within proper guidelines. Responsible for the hiring, terminating and disciplinary process for tooling team.
  • Develops and maintains standard operating procedures to assure efficient and proper operation/production of all tooling.
  • Provides adequate information, documentation, and training on all new and/or existing tooling and equipment and provides technical support to other departments as necessary.
  • Daily hands-on leadership, decisive response to issues, root cause analysis, problem solving, troubleshooting, teaching and process improvement.
  • Hands-on engineering, such as reverse engineering, simple assembly and machining work, component testing and failure analysis.
  • Support engineering, quality, planning, scheduling to meet production numbers and on-time delivery.
  • Achieve Safety, Quality, Delivery and Productivity measures with responsibility for operational KPIs.
  • Managing internal and external resources to meet the technical requirements of the project, such as outside vendors, and management of techs and/or interns.
  • Prepare detailed technical reports and design documentation in compliance with the Innovation Group’s internal development process
  • Help maintain West’s digital database of product concepts and CAD models
  • Work with HSE manager to help improve safety, reliability, and effective use of equipment.
  • Leveraging internal and external resources to solving complex problems
  • Managing of projects using good engineering principles and techniques
  • Support the management of external engineering and design resources with appropriate interaction with their technical teams
  • Reviews with technical managers processing and tooling issues and ensures appropriate plans are initiated to correct them.
  • Institutes and insures implementation of training programs to ensure personnel are proficient in performance of assigned duties.
  • Prepares quotes and/or budgets for acquisition/repairing of production or new tooling.
  • Manage tooling Vendors.
  • Reviews all tooling requests for justification and compliance to Quote; ensures requests are reviewed for correct posting of charges, West and Customer.
  • Safeguard samples, confidential information, and personnel records.
  • Manages all production tooling and introduction of new production tooling in the manufacturing environment for the facility.
  • Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly, and safe workstation and environment at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience: Trade School
  • Experience: 8-10 years of experience
  • Plastic Injection Molding Tooling experience
  • Regulatory compliance in cGMP manufacturing and testing of Pharmaceutical or Medical Device Products.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Experience working with teams and influencing decisions
  • Strong background in medical devices tooling design, improv, qualification and validation.
  • Six Sigma Black Belt or Green Belt
  • Familiar CAD/Solidworks
  • Master Molder or equivalent

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Medical Device manufacturing requires strict adherence to standards. Working environment is a manufacturing facility, which houses plastic injection molding machines. Must tolerate fumes and particulate generated from various plastics. Work areas are equipped with adequate lighting, cooling/heating and equipment that are in a good working condition. Must work constructively in an environment that may be stressful due to competing resources while at all times maintaining company confidentiality.
  • May stand or sit for extended periods of time. Must transport oneself to and from other areas of the facility and travel to other divisions when necessary. Must have good visual acuity. If specifically necessitated by customer requirements, must be able to see with or without corrective lenses and distinguish color differences for product and safety issues. Hearing ability should be sufficient to hear audible alarms from distances up to 150ft.
  • The ability to be able to lift and carry various items up to 50lbs.
