Job Summary:
Identify, develop, and implement health, safety and environmental programs and policies to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations and corporate standards. This position reports directly to the Plant Manager and has the specific duty and responsibility for the overall workplace health and safety for all onsite individuals; employees, contractors, visitors and/or guests
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Proactively implement and guide site specific Health, Safety, Environmental (HSE) programs and procedures, behavioral safety processes, corporate safety mandates, problem analysis/troubleshooting, and interpretation of applicable regulatory regulations.
- Support site incident reporting process to ensure effective investigation, reporting, corrective actions, trends, and best practice sharing throughout the business.
- Investigate, analyze, identify, and recommend controls for root causes and/or potential causes of accidents, exposures to hazardous materials and ergonomic risks.
- Implement and lead the risk assessment program including but not limited to Job Safety Analysis (JSA), Personal Protective Equipment (PPE), FMEA, and equipment assessments.
- Manage site PPE program.
- Manage environmental related programs, reporting, and permit requirements including monthly recordkeeping and applicable documentation.
- Develop and update site specific HSE training needs analysis, operational reviews, and new equipment assessments.
- Develop, implement, and deliver training on HSE programs and procedures.
- Understand, implement, report and monitor HSE and regulatory compliance metrics.
- Participate in the project planning and turnover process regarding new equipment, plant process improvements, and modifications to the plant from the HSE perspective.
- Develop and implement contractor safety program per corporate guidance. Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance with West Safety Policies.
- Represent local manufacturing site for all corporate HSE inquiries
- Work collaboratively with HR manager to manage onsite Security.
- Oversee the site safety committee & assist in establishing site safety goals & objectives.
- Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for hazardous materials used in the workplace.
- Manage site Workers’ Compensation claims.
- Participates in other key HSE initiatives as assigned by the Director of Operations.
- Perform other duties, as assigned based on business needs.
Education and Experience:
- Education: Bachelor of Science in Occupational Safety and Health, Engineering, or science related field.
- Experience: 10+ years of experience
- 8+ years related experience in a manufacturing environment.
- Experience writing and implementing HSE policies and procedures
- Prior manufacturing experience in an industrial setting required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Pharmaceutical manufacturing industry experience
- Master of Occupational Safety, Environmental Science, or science related field.
- OSHA 30 certification
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Must have knowledge of OSHA, Federal, State, and local safety laws and regulations;
- Must have excellent interpersonal & problem-solving skills & be able to interface with employees in all levels of the organization; must possess good organization, time-management, negotiating & conflict resolution skills; excellent computer skills (including MS Office experience using Word & Excel) required.
- Lean/six sigma certification strongly preferred
