Job Summary

  • In this role, you are responsible for consulting with business stakeholders, analyzing learning and performance needs, and designing, developing, implementing, and evaluating effective learning solutions that improve team member capability, support compliance expectations, and enable business performance.
  • This role partners closely with subject matter experts, Quality, Operations, HR, HSE, site/function leaders, Learning & Development colleagues, and other stakeholders to create engaging, accurate, scalable, and measurable learning experiences. Solutions may include instructor-led training, virtual instructor-led training, eLearning, blended learning, microlearning, job aids, assessments, simulations, train-the-trainer materials, onboarding resources, and performance support tools.
  • The Instructional Designer applies adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, learning technologies, accessibility standards, and evaluation practices to ensure learning solutions are aligned to business needs, role expectations, regulatory requirements, and West standards.
  • This role also supports the continued development of learning design standards, templates, processes, and best practices as West builds this capability across the organization.
  • The ideal candidate brings strong learning design expertise, stakeholder consultation skills, content development capability, project management discipline, and the ability to translate complex technical, operational, compliance, or business information into clear and practical learning experiences.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Partner with business leaders, HR, Quality, Operations, HSE, SMEs, and Learning & Development partners to identify learning needs, performance gaps, audience requirements, and desired business outcomes.
  • Conduct needs analyses, task analyses, audience analyses, and content reviews to determine the most appropriate learning approach.
  • Design and develop learning solutions using instructional design methodologies such as ADDIE, SAM, Bloom’s Taxonomy, adult learning principles, and other evidence-based learning practices.
  • Develop learning objectives, curriculum maps, course outlines, storyboards, facilitator guides, participant guides, knowledge checks, assessments, practical exercises, job aids, OJT materials, and performance support tools.
  • Develop assessments, evaluations, knowledge checks, practice activities, and application-based exercises to measure learner understanding and training effectiveness.
  • Build and maintain learning content using authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate, Camtasia, or similar platforms.
  • Manage multiple instructional design projects simultaneously while meeting agreed timelines, quality expectations, and stakeholder needs.
  • Coordinate with local and global Learning & Development colleagues to support consistent learning design standards, templates, processes, and best practices.
  • Use AI-enabled tools and emerging technologies responsibly and in alignment with company standards, data privacy expectations, and quality requirements.

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning & Development, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Communications, Business, or a related field or equivalent experince required.

Work Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional design, learning development, corporate training, curriculum development, or related Learning & Development work.
  • Experience designing and developing learning solutions for adult learners in a corporate, manufacturing, technical, quality, healthcare, pharmaceutical, medical device, or regulated environment.
  • Experience applying adult learning principles, instructional design methodologies, and learning evaluation practices.
  • Experience creating eLearning, instructor-led training, virtual instructor-led training, blended learning, assessments, job aids, and performance support resources.
  • Proficiency with eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate Storyline, Articulate Rise, Adobe Captivate, or similar platforms.
  • Experience working with subject matter experts and stakeholders to gather content, clarify learning needs, and validate training materials.
  • Experience working with Learning Management Systems.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Strong knowledge of adult learning theory, instructional design, facilitation, learning technologies, learning evaluation, and performance consulting.
  • Ability to work with stakeholders to identify business needs, audience requirements, performance gaps, and measurable learning outcomes.
  • Ability to translate complex business, technical, operational, quality, and compliance information into clear, practical, learner-centered training.
  • Strong skills in curriculum design, course structure, assessments, reinforcement tools, communication, facilitation, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Strong project management, organization, adaptability, and proficiency with LMS platforms, eLearning authoring tools, Microsoft Office, and related learning technologies
  • Knowledge of Articulate or EasyGenerator a plus.

Travel Requirements

5%: Up to 13 business days per year

Physical Requirements

Sedentary-Exerting up to 10lbs/4kgs of force occasionally, and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time.

Shift

This is a hybrid role in our Exton office.  Required to be in office three days per week.  Flexibility on days and times worked.  Supports global organization.
