Job Summary:

The Senior Director, Global Supply Planning leads the Global Supply Planning team and is accountable for the end-to-end supply of West’s products.  The role is responsible for the global strategic planning and global capacity planning and is a primary point of contact with Commercial, Market Unit and Operations Leader for global planning and supply.  The Senior Director, Global Supply Planning is a key role in establishing the Global Supply Review as part of a Global S&OP process.  The initial focus of this role will be to establish a Global Supply Planning team that can establish process and begin to build supply chain capability.  As the global supply chain matures the role has the opportunity to expand in scope and responsibility.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead, manage and develop the assigned team of global supply planning professionals, responsible for the end-to-end integrated global supply plans, capacity analysis and network optimization for products and value streams.
  • Responsible for establishing global inventory policy, a global network optimization roadmap, long term supply planning, global strategic capacity planning and managing global supply escalations.
  • Strategic partner to Commercial Operations and Product Management translating brand/product strategy into supply strategy and ensuring strategic capacity planning. 
  • Partners with Global Operations and other key functions (Quality, Finance, Strategic Sourcing, Global Engineering, Center of Excellence) on supply strategy and ensures execution.
  • Serves as a brand/product escalation point across Global Supply Planning ensuring end to end supply plans are aligned.
  • Integrates with adjacent supply chain teams including Demand Planning, Operations, Center of Excellence, Global Strategic Sourcing and Global Logistics to optimize business results.
  • In partnership with Commercial, develops a strategy and roadmap for appropriate inventory levels and defines relevant stock policies demand, supply, risk tolerance and customer service strategies.
  • Defines appropriate customer service strategies in support of current business needs and anticipates future requirements.
  • Drives and oversees supply chain performance and continuous improvement initiatives within the planning and materials functions.  Drives performance on target service levels and other supply chain KPI’s providing analytics and visibility for the network supply status to all cross functional stakeholders.
  • Supports New Product introductions and Life Cycle Management strategies to ensure the supply network plans are optimally created and supply plans executed in support of the established timelines.
  • Key leader and contributor in the Global S&OP and/or other forums escalating risks and supply constraints, providing scenarios, proposing alternate solutions and comprehensive analytics to drive consensus and rapid decision making. 
  • Is accountable for the Global Supply Review process incorporating constraints to the network plan and any deviations to budget or the previous plan.
  • Ability to effectively operate in a complex and dynamic environment, provide clear direction and instruction to direct reports, and continuously looking internally and externally for best practices and areas for improvement.   Ability to lead via influence.
  • Develops and implements objectives aligned with business strategies, builds a high performing team that can scale and support future growth.
  • Strengthens overall leadership and organizational capabilities related to Global Supply Planning.  Role models the ability to partner across functions, build relationships and rapport.  Acts as a mentor in or across the supply chain organization.
  • Ensure a culture of performance, collaboration, customer service and accountability where individuals are valued, recognized, developed, and aligned to our company mission and supply chain strategy.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in a science or technical field, or supply chain management. 
  • Required 12+ years supply chain management and planning experience for a global Biotech, Pharmaceutical, Medical Devices or Consumer Product Company using world class supply chain planning and execution process with at least 5 years as a senior leader (Director).
  • Required experience with global product supply planning and knowledge of S&OP or IBP process.
  • Experience in developing and implementing world class, global supply chain planning processes and managing them through deployment of global advanced planning and scheduling systems.
  • Good understanding and exposure to current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), FDA and other regulatory requirements.
  • Exposure and experience in pharmaceutical or other highly regulated manufacturing processes, with preference for previous experience work at a production site and in a global capacity.
  • Experience working internationally in a fast paced, complex supply network company with a matrixed structure.
  • Ability to drive change through influence, building trust and confidence across the organization.
  • Fluent in English

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • MBA or advanced degree or certification in Supply Chain Management (APICS or CSCP certification) strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities building highly effective teams with a global mindset.
  • Strong leadership and ability to influence.  Ability to anticipate and lead through ambiguity.
  • Ability to work in a matrix environment and build strong relationships by being transparent, reliable, and delivering on commitments.
  • Ability to provide creative ideas or alternatives to optimize the supply chain network and create value.
  • Strong understanding of global supply planning principals (financial and material flows, linkages, lead times, systems, strategic planning, supply network planning, budgeting, business acumen) and experience using ERP systems, risk management & S&OP/IBP.
  • Has a continuous improvement mindset, strong strategic and analytical thinking, leverages data for problem solving and rapid decision making.
  • Skilled in achieving results and managing others to achieve corporate, site, and departmental objectives
  • Excellent communication skills, strong overall presentation and influencing skills, assertiveness, and ability to interact and gain support of senior management
  • Ability to create and foster a team-based environment to create and maintain cooperative relationships across the organization.
  • Aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position 
  • Support and contribute in Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target
  • Able to comply with the company’s safety policy at all times
  • Able to comply with the company’s quality policy at all times.
  • Fluent in English

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time, including internationally.
