Job Summary:
In this role, you will set and operate CNC milling machines and Surface Grinders in the manufacture and repair of elastomer & plastic moulds, press-tools and other tooling components. You will demonstrate a proactive mindset for process development, assist in increasing automation and utilisation of equipment, support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities, whilst supporting colleagues and Managers to meet quality, delivery and cost objectives. You will comply with the company’s safety, environmental and quality policies at all times.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Set & Operate CNC milling machines (3 & 4 axis)
- Set & Operate CNC/NC surface grinders
- Carry out in process Quality inspections and rectify/escalate Quality issues
- Comply with all corporate and local site Health & Safety, Environmental and Quality policies, procedures and regulations
- Comply with all machine instructions and ensure proper use of equipment and assets
- Comply with all process work instructions, control plans, maintenance and safety schedules
- Read, understand & interpret Engineering drawings correctly
- Act in accordance with the Company’s Code of Conduct and Guiding Principles
- Report any near miss accidents, incidents or HSE irregularities
- Carry out HSE and Workplace Inspections
- Ensure that your work area(s) are always kept clean and tidy
- Ensure your PPE is used and maintained correctly
- Demonstrate a proactive mindset for process development
- Ensure maximum machine efficiency through effective prioritization and use of machine automation
- Support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities
- Support the business in meeting all quality, delivery and cost objectives
- Report issues, problems or irregularities beyond your control to the appropriate person or via the LDMS escalation process
- Other duties as assigned
Basic Qualifications:
- Required: Formal engineering apprenticeship to NVQ3 level/City and Guilds or equivalent relevant work experience
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Required:
- Experience in setting & operation of CNC equipment
- Familiarity and experience in on-machine programming
- Familiarity and experience of use of measuring equipment
- Familiarity and experience of interpreting Engineering drawings
- Familiarity and experience of modern cutting tools and techniques
- Experience and conversant PC user
- Desirable:
- Experience in Fanuc machine tool controls
- Experience in multi-axis machine tools
- Experience in elastomer mould, plastic mould and press-tool manufacture
- Experience in conventional toolroom machinery (mills, lathes, surface grinders)
- Knowledge of other toolroom machinery (cylindrical grinders, EDM, WEDM)
- Experience in automation processes & database managed machine tools
- Experience of “Lean Manufacturing” techniques
- Experienced in Offline programming & part verification
Travel Requirements:
- There are no regular travel requirements for this role
Physical Requirements:
- Medium – exerting up to 22kg of force occasionally and/or up to 9kg of force frequently, and/or up to 4kg of force constantly to move objects
