Directs and coordinates technical activities of the production processing and tooling department(s) for manufacturing of commodities; repair, manufacture of injection molding and injection blow molding components; manages all budgetary functions relevant to both operations performing the following personally or through subordinates.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Reviews operational schedules and daily activities of the Tool Room and Processing groups and coordinates technical activities to meet production deliveries.
  • Reviews production and operating reports and resolves operational and manufacturing problems to ensure minimum costs and prevent operational delays.
  • Develops or revises standard operational and working practices and monitors operations to ensure compliance with standards.
  • Reviews with technical managers processing and tooling issues and ensures appropriate plans are initiated to correct them.
  • Conducts/attends periodic meetings with staff and department personnel to promote West philosophies and expectations.
  • Coordinates activities relative to the efficient use of the process monitoring system.
  • Institutes and insures implementation of training programs to ensure personnel are proficient in performance of assigned duties.
  • Takes appropriate action to ensure compliance with all safety, health and hazardous communication standards.
  • Prepares operational budgets for acquisition/repairing of production tooling and prepares annual report for customer paid expenses.
  • Reviews all tooling requests for justification and compliance to budget; ensures requests are reviewed for correct posting of charges, West and Customer.
  • Apprises Director of Operations of potential problems/concerns relevant to operations of production tooling/processing.
  • Safeguard samples, confidential information, and personnel records.
  • Evaluate assigned personnel; promptly submit required personnel reports; recommend required action, i.e., salary change, promotion, discharge.
  • Manages all production tooling and introduction of new production tooling in the manufacturing environment for the facility.
  • Ensures that established policies, rules and regulations, and procedures are followed.
  • Actively participates and complies with all West HSE & OpEx programs and regulations.
  • Maintain a neat and orderly work environment in accordance with West 5S program.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Plastic or Tooling; or six to eight years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Experience: 6-8 years of job-related management experience
  • Complete working knowledge of the injection molding process, injection blow molding process and the associated tooling for each; including tooling design and manufacture. 
  • Understanding of budgetary process with ability to establish operational and capital budgets.  Demonstrative knowledge of variability, numerical reasoning, and computer applications.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have excellent interpersonal & problem-solving skills & be able to interface with customers and employees in all levels of the organization; must possess good organization, time-management, negotiating & conflict resolution skills; excellent computer skills (including MS Office experience using Word & Excel) required.


Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time
