Job Summary:

In this role, you will identify, develop & implement programs that comply with Federal, State & Local safety & environmental regulations to promote a healthy and safe work environment. Investigate all safety & occupational health related incidents & injuries & implement all corrective actions to prevent reoccurrence from happening.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Investigate, analyze, identify and recommend controls for causes and/or potential causes of accidents, exposures to hazardous materials and ergonomic hazards.
  • Filing of any required Workers Compensation and OSHA forms.
  • Track, maintain and record EPA hazardous waste records, air emissions, water pollutant discharge, etc. and file all required permits, documents and reports with appropriate federal, state or local agencies.
  • Monitor and report various safety information to corporate headquarters personnel on a monthly or as needed basis.
  • Evaluate “Best Practices” among West plants and external resources to keep West manufacturing on the leading edge from a safety technology and/or practices perspective.  Counsel & assist other West plant sites on safety or health related matters.
  • Participate in the project turnover process regarding new equipment or plant processes from the safety evaluation and check-off perspective.
  • Assist in the transfer of equipment or technology or other needed information to other West plants from the safety perspective.
  • Develop, implement & train on safety, health & environmental programs & procedures.
  • Oversee the site safety committee & assist in establishing site safety goals & objectives.
  • Maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) on hazardous materials used in the workplace.
  • Perform job hazard assessment analyses.  Specify personal protective equipment.
  • Develop and implement contractor safety guidelines.  Monitor contractor activities to ensure compliance.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Occupational Safety and Health or Engineering Safety related field.
  • Experience: 8-10 years of job-related experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Must have knowledge of OSHA, Federal, State and local safety laws and regulations. 

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have excellent interpersonal & problem-solving skills & be able to interface with employees in all levels of the organization; must possess good organization, time-management, negotiating & conflict resolution skills; excellent computer skills (including MS Office experience using Word & Excel) required.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time
