Job Summary:

Lead the Plant Procurement team in Waterford. Directly and through the team, being responsible and accountable for the procurement for the West facility in Waterford, including supplier selection, ordering, follow-up and process control, while ensuring that internal customer requirements for materials/goods and services are achieved in a timely manner at the lowest total cost and in direct conformance with the policies and procedures of West.


Developing, implementing and sustaining procurement plans and strategies for Waterford that are directly supportive of global procurement business objectives and professional/ethical business practices. Drive plant consistency of the globally harmonized procurement responsibilities and processes, while establishing and implementing best practices.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Have overall responsibility and accountability for seamless, smooth provision of the goods and services supply of the West facility in Waterford.
  • Understand and have a good knowledge of the local landscape of the supply market for goods and services in terms of supplier base, technologies, competitive environment, market trends and cost drivers.
  • Guide and support the Plant Procurement team applying globally harmonized processes and execute sourcing Plant Procurement initiatives to deliver optimal total cost of ownership, consolidate supplier base and drive efficiency through the chosen solutions, together with a multitude of stakeholders at various levels. Provide proactive management of critical issues with suppliers. Inform and coordinate communication with the Supply Chain Manager Germany on major supplier issues with recommendations for resolution.
  • Find and implement strategic sourcing solutions previously unknown to West, or previously known but not actioned.
  • Recommend training and skills building programs for all Plant Procurement team members.
  • Directly and through the team, negotiate contracts with suppliers. Understand and negotiate the structure and terms of common contracts and business models in Germany.
  • Identify and assess risks and benefits of sourcing decisions and clearly present proposals to mitigate risks collaboratively, ensuring sustained product supply-quality-compliance.
  • Directly and through the team, act as first escalation point if problems with suppliers arise. Coordinate resolution of supplier performance issues with limited management support.
  • Contribute to the annual budget process by providing reliable cost estimates and realistic forecasts.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.
  • Ensure adequate protection of confidential information and documentation. Restrict access to confidential information. Ensure that key operational and essential documentation files are properly stored.
  • Manage the teams performance, conduct performance reviews, team recruitment, training and development plans while addressing  any issues that arise in a timely manner.

  • Compliance to all local site Environmental, Health and Safety regulations.
  • Compliance to all local site company policies, procedures and corporate policies.


Basic Qualifications: 

  • High School or Equivalent with supply chain or procurement certifications, or relevant work experience.



  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business or Technical curriculum, or non-academic Bachelor of business administration.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 3-5 years of progressive business experience in sourcing/supplier/category management or related functions. Experience in SAP (MM) and MS Office would be an additional benefit.
  • Supplier and contract management experience.
  • Good influencing, change management, and negotiation skills.
  • Present and advocate sourcing cases to a variety of audiences with self-confidence.
  • Ability to respectfully communicate to and challenge plant management team.
  • Openness for new initiatives, fast learner, proactive.
  • Ability to lead teams and build effective working relationships both internally and externally.
  • Good presentation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Results orientation.
  • Good analytical capabilities.
  • Self-starter and independent worker.
  • Proficiency in English.



  • 6-10 years of progressive business experience in sourcing/supplier/category management or related functions, preferably with chemical industry or pharmaceutical industry background.
  • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, negotiation and project management skills.
  • Supply Chain or Procurement Certifications.
  • Ability to perform under pressure.
  • Experience in managing cross-functional projects.
  • Experience in SAP (MM) and MS Office.
  • Proficiency in one additional language.


Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time
