POSITION SUMMARY: Supervise production, maintenance and repair of molds and dies; assure efficient personnel and equipment use; provide designer guidance; schedule work; prepare cost estimates; guide apprenticeship program; occasional troubleshoot in or out-of-plant tooling problems; make related recommendations.
ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Supervise and direct tool room activities related to the repair / maintenance of tools; fabrication of new components, new item development.
2. Assure efficient departmental personnel and equipment scheduling and use.
3. Training of new tool room personnel during their orientation period.
4. Support all departments requesting guidance in tooling related issues.
5. Prepare cost estimates for die, mold and damaged equipment repairs and delivery.
6. Develop and maintain an effective organization to meet short / long-range requirements.
7. Exercise adequate control of expense budget.
8. Evaluate assigned personnel; promptly submit required personnel reports; recommend required action, i.e., salary change, promotion, discharge.
9. Safeguard samples, confidential information and personnel records.
10. Promote a safe work environment; maintaining adequate knowledge of safety rules and regulations relevant to tool room and compliance of same.
11. Other duties as assigned.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, preferably in machining, manufacturing, industrial, materials or plastics with a minimum of two (2) years of hands on tooling experience; OR Associates degree in Engineering, preferably in machining, manufacturing, industrial, materials or plastics with a minimum of five (5) years of hands on tooling experience; complete working knowledge of all molding processes in the plant as it relates to tooling. Demonstrate knowledge of variability, numerical reasoning and computer applications.
Experience: 3-5 years
Direct/Indirect Reports: Directly supervises all personnel in the tool room. Carries out managerial responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws; apprises the Processing/Tooling Manager of potential or existing problems. Responsibilities include training programs; planning; assigning and directing operational workload; evaluation of all production tooling; initiation or implementation of improvements or revisions; appraising performance; reviewing recommendations of rewards or discipline of employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
PHYSICAL & TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, talk & hear.
• The employee is occasionally required to sit & use hands to handle, feel objects, tools or controls; reach with hands & arms & stoop & kneel.
• Employee must lift &/or move up to 10 pounds & occasionally lift &/or move up to 50 pounds.
• Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception & the ability to adjust focus.
• Employee will be required to work 40 hours a week; involves overtime; call-in on off shifts, weekends & holidays.
• Work performed in a Plant environment.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee works near moving mechanical parts.
• The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to loud.
• Must follow & comply with -Plant’s Dress & Hygiene Code (SOI).
• Must follow & comply all Company & Plant policies, procedures (SOIs), rules & State & Federal laws.
