Job Summary:
This role will be responsible for the set-up, operation, and monitoring CNC and/or manual Lathe Machines to provide operational support for the construction, assembly, and/or repair of molds, dies, and ancillary equipment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
• Load and unload raw materials and equipment.
• Set up and operate a variety of CNC Lathe machines (Mazak, Hardinge) according to instructions.
• Start and monitor machine operation to commence production process, detect malfunctions/out-of tolerance machining, and make any necessary adjustments/documentation to ensure product specifications are met throughout the process.
• Perform quality control, following appropriate reporting and documentation procedures.
• Occasionally perform a variety of repetitive manual tasks for extended periods according to instructions.
• Transfer finished product, raw materials, tools, or equipment between work areas.
• Ability to translate mechanical documents and engineering drawings into appropriate dimensions for production.
• Ability to correctly read common hand measuring tools such as outside micrometers, bore micrometers, dial indicators, etc.
• Inspect parts with appropriate measuring equipment to ensure results are within specification.
• Provide quality feedback to appropriate Department Lead(s) to support holistic Continuous Improvement efforts.
• Perform routine maintenance tasks on machines as required.
• Sweep/mop daily, dispose of scrap/trash/recycling properly, and maintain the equipment and workplace in a clean, safe, and orderly condition.
• In coordination with your manager, determine specific measurable goals to achieve personal objectives in alignment with overall business goals and ensure timely execution/completion.
• Maintain effectiveness when experiencing major changes in work responsibilities or environment; adjusting effectively to work within new work structures, processes, requirements, or cultures.
• Work and communicate well with other team members and contribute to Continuous Improvement teams.
• Help and instruct fellow employees as needed and assist in the orientation and training of new employees when appropriate.
• Accept responsibility for the quality of your work in your assigned area.
• Observe all plant safety rules and regulations.
• Perform other duties as required
Basic Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent
• Understanding of intermediate M- and G- code programming for CNC Lathes
• 3 - 5 years CNC Lathe set-up, operating, and monitoring experience
• Mechanically inclined
• Ability to perform mathematical calculations (add, subtract, multiply, divide, fractions, decimals) and perform unit of measurement conversions (i.e., imperial to metric, metric to imperial).
Ability to correctly follow written and/or oral instructions
• Detail and goal oriented
• Ability to always comply with the Company’s safety policies
• Ability to always comply with the Company’s quality policies.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Awareness of and follow all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
• Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve
• Experience with Lathe maintenance procedures
• Experience with the manufacture of rubber compression molds/components
• Formal apprenticeship training/completion
Travel Requirements:
• There are no travel requirements for this position.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
• Frequent standing, twisting, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, and walking. Must be able to work with items weighing up to forty (40) pounds.
• Must be able to work under time constraints without sacrificing product quality.
• Ability to make sound judgments after management guidance and instruction. • Read and interpret data, information, and documents.
• Assist in analyzing and solving problems.
