Job Summary:

In this role, you will provide frontline automation and molding technical support of automated injection molding production cells in a medical device manufacturing environment. Daily responsibilities include responding to machine alarms, performing in-service molding cleaning, troubleshooting and making molding and automation machine adjustments to minimize scrap generation and maximize machine production. Assists in production tool setup, line clearance, machine purging and control panel adjustments to support production staff.

 

In addition to the responsibilities listed below, the Production Technician Lead Is also responsible for ensuring the tasks below are completed properly by Production Technicians on the assigned shift(s).  

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Mentoring Production Technicians including one-on-one meetings, advising the Molding Technician Supervisor on training needs and providing leadership.
  • Resolving GDP and minor technician errors with the Batch Production Records.
  • Carrying out assigned training with Production Technicians.
  • Responds to and resolves machine alarms, assists with any necessary corrective actions.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs automation robots, vision systems, injection molding machines, PLCs and associated injection molding auxiliary equipment. Follows escalation plan to minimize downtime.
  • Assists and reviews mold setups, cleaning, venting and teardown, sampling and reviewing parts to ensure quality compliance.
  • Installs, monitors, cleans, and removes auxiliary equipment associated with automated injection molding cells to support production needs.
  • Reviews control panel, operational data and runtime history to improve automated injection molding cell performance, reliability and production.
  • Updates production status board and provides timely notification to operations shift leader of maintenance issues and downtime.
  • Assists operations shift leader in maintaining molded component quality through proper machine operation.
  • Interfaces with operations shift leader and production technicians throughout each day and at shift change hand off.
  • Develops long-term predictive/preventative maintenance plans for automated injection molding cells. Maintains spare parts inventories.
  • Maintains and updates all equipment log books with accurate repair/adjustment information.
  • Identifies and resolves potential safety hazards.
  • Contributes to continuous process improvement efforts to reduce scrap, cycle times, improve efficiency, and eliminate waste within the production environment.
  • Provides a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
  • Maintains a clean, orderly and safe workstation and environment at all times.
  • Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.
  • Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual and predictable attendance.
  • Must be able to work scheduled work week, plus overtime and/or irregular hours as required to complete assignments.

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Education or Equivalent Experience: High School or equivalent.
  • Experience: 3-5yrs automation or plastics injection molding manufacturing experience.
  • Hiring for all shifts, must be able to work night shift once trained.

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 5-8 years of automation or plastics injection molding manufacturing experience.
  • Experience and working knowledge of PLC, vision system, 6-axis robot and SCARA robot troubleshooting.
  • Medical device manufacturing or other regulated industry.
  • Background with medical device or pharmaceutical manufacturing qualifications/validations.
  • Experience with current Good Manufacturing Practices (cGMP), FDA Quality System Regulation (QSR), and ISO 9002 / ISO 13485 standards.

 

Travel Requirements:

  • None.

 

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Medical Device manufacturing requires strict adherence to standards. Working environment is a manufacturing facility, which houses plastic injection molding machines. Must tolerate fumes and particulate generated from various plastics. Work areas are equipped with adequate lighting, cooling/heating and equipment that are in a good working condition. Must work constructively in an environment that may be stressful due to competing resources while at all times maintaining company confidentiality.
  • May stand or sit for extended periods of time. Must transport oneself to and from other areas of the facility and travel to other divisions when necessary. Must have good visual acuity. If specifically necessitated by customer requirements, must be able to see with or without corrective lenses and distinguish color differences for product and safety issues. Hearing ability should be sufficient to hear audible alarms from distances up to 150ft.
  • The ability to be able to lift and carry various items up to 50lbs.
