In this role, you will lead automation projects on existing and future equipment within the business. Using Lean Six Sigma methodologies, identify and champion continuous improvement initiatives for equipment and manufacturing processes. Develop long-term predictive/preventative maintenance plans. Maintain optimum equipment efficiency and provide support as needed. Coach and mentor technical teams, including engineers, technicians, and operations staff.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Champion high-visibility projects. Develop project scope, timeline, return on investment, etc.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement sustainable manufacturing processes and systems.
  • Develop design concepts for new automation. Present to management staff.
  • Research new technologies and methodologies to use in the plant.
  • Write validation, user requirements, equipment specification, and other documents as needed.
  • Actively support proprietary program initiatives with direct customer interactions.
  • Ensure automation lines are meeting their targeted output and OEE.
  • Technical and hands-on automated equipment troubleshooting, repair, and improvements.
  • Perform and document engineering studies and evaluations.
  • Analyze data to drive improvements, determine prioritization, and identify opportunities.
  • Provide timely notification to site team of maintenance and down time issues.
  • Promote and support a Lean Manufacturing environment within the facility.
  • Provide a “Customer Service” attitude when interacting with internal and external customers while accomplishing work, production, and achieving quality standards.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, and safety rules.
  • Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual, and predictable attendance.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Automation includes – PLC-driven assembly machines, robots, end of arms, pneumatic and servo systems, vision systems, label applicators, test equipment, etc.


Basic Qualifications: 

  • Education or Equivalent Experience: bachelor’s degree in engineering.
  • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in automated manufacturing, including hands-on equipment troubleshooting and validation of new equipment.
  • Experience performing acceptance testing and validation for new automated equipment.
  • Knowledge of best practices in manufacturing processes, workflows, production equipment and industrial techniques.
  • Experience in lean manufacturing and Six Sigma.
  • Experience with data analytics and statistical process control.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in engineering.
  • Proficiency in CAD design (ideally with AutoCAD and/or SolidWorks).
  • Experience in medical device industry or other regulated industry.
  • Experience in developing data analytics, reports, and dashboards, especially in Power BI.
  • Experience developing and performing DOEs and Gage R&Rs using Minitab.

  • Must be able to perform job duties as required with limited physical demands within clean room manufacturing requirement.
