Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead the overall development and execution of a prominent Product Platform within the Medical Devices Platform Engineering business segment, including technology development and life cycle management, within appropriate West quality and regulatory systems. You will be responsible for directing multiple R&D product development projects, and major customer development agreements simultaneously in support of platform expansion, growth and maintenance.  You will serve as a Medical Devices R&D Champion and assist in defining the overall strategy for the Product Platform, including defining technical and market direction, in collaboration with R&D and Product Management leaders. This role is responsible for leading the formulation, planning, and execution of projects to targeted timelines in a manner compliant to applicable governance policies and procedures.  You will communicate at all levels of the organization and be responsible for recognizing and engaging key stakeholders and cross-functional resources throughout the process.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Direct cross-functional teams, in the execution of strategic goals and project milestones specific to the product platform; in partnership with commercial, product management, quality, regulatory and operations.
  • Work with internal and external team resources in a matrix management structure to;
    • Drive completion of project milestones based on timelines and project goals through all stages of the product development life cycle
    • Identify opportunities, unmet needs, and requirements for new product / product line extension projects and/or product optimization development projects.
    • Develop business rationale and business case for new products or new product platforms
    • Enable an accelerate product platform strategies
    • Actively support project initiatives with direct customer interactions
    • Ensure technical and customer requirements for programs are achieved
    • Ensure that all required documentation deliverables are satisfied and delivered
  • For large customer programs, or customers with multiple programs, serve as West representative accountable for program(s) success.
  • Define and lead the strategy for the Product Platform including defining technical and market direction in collaboration with R&D and Product Management leaders.
  • Conduct routine program reviews with project teams and senior management.
  • Coordinate resource allocation and constraints with functional manager, program managers.
  • Collaborate with sponsor and stakeholders to establish project priorities and meet timelines.
  • Interface with customers and external support services, e.g. suppliers and contract vendors, to facilitate the development and execution of assigned programs.
  • Communicates key messages, goals, and objectives to team members in their local geographies or business units to drive alignment and a high-performance culture. 
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules.
  • Exhibits regular, reliable, punctual, and predictable attendance.
  • Performs other duties as assigned based on business needs.


Basic Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelors in Engineering, Materials, Chemistry, or equivalent technical degree.
  • MBA/Masters degree preferred.
  • Experience: 10+ years of experience


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • 10+ years Medical Materials, Medical Device &/or Drug Delivery Systems product development experience. 
  • Proven ability to work in a virtual environment in a global organization.
  • Ability to work autonomously and effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal & international regulations such as 21CFR Parts 210, 211, & 820. 
  • cGMP manufacturing experience preferred. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite software.
  • Ability to be aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
  • Complies with the company’s safety and quality policy at all times.

Travel Requirements:

        • Must be able to travel to domestically & internationally as project requirements & business needs require.


Physical & Mental Requirements:

        • Work in an office/home office environment.  At times required sit or stand for extended periods of time. 
        • Ability to effectively communicate and comprehend complex ideas and concepts.
