Job Summary:

 The Sr. Engineer, R&D, Daikyo Development will execute research and development and/or new product development project assignments related to the Daikyo / West devices, container and/or elastomeric product lines. This role will formulate, plan, and execute completion of tasks and/or projects to targeted timelines, in a manner compliant to applicable governance policies and procedures. 

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain required quality records and project management documents associated with assigned projects.
  • Prepare, support, and participate as directed in project reviews with Project Teams and Management
  • Work with internal and external resources to:
    • Identify project requirements in support of new product/product line extension projects and/or product optimization development projects.
    • Develop, execute, and document project assignments in compliance with committed timelines and project goals, per established governance policies and procedures.
    • Actively support Daikyo product development initiatives with direct customer interactions as warranted by project assignments
    • Ensure technical and customer requirements for assigned projects are achieved.
    • Ensure that all required documentation deliverables are satisfied and delivered.
  • Follow applicable West project management process & methods.
  • Maintain clear communication paths with stakeholders.
  • Interface with customers and external support services, e.g. suppliers and contract vendors, to facilitate the development and execution of assigned projects.
  • Perform other duties as assigned based on business needs.
  • Conforms with and abides by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instruction, and all safety rules

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Education: Bachelor's in Mechanical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Plastics Engineering, Chemical Engineering or Materials Science.
  • Experience: 5-8 years of experience
    • May have an advanced degree with less than 5 years of work experience

 

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Must have effective problem solving and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office suite software, and project management software such as Microsoft Project.
  • Experience with design controls, product development, and test method development/validation preferred.
  • Working knowledge of applicable federal and international regulations such as ISO 13485, ISO 11040, ISO 11608 and 21CFR Parts 210, 211, and 820 preferred. 
  • Working knowledge of 3D design applications preferred.
  • Working knowledge of statistics a plus. 
  • Able to be aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
  • Support and contribute in Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target

 

Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 10% of the time to domestic and international customers as well as West’s manufacturing location as project requirements dictate.

 

Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to work (30 - 40%) in a laboratory and/or shop floor environment.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively, express & exchange ideas and understand direction. 
  • Maintain the ability to work well with others in a variety of situations.
  • Able to multi-task, work under time constraints, problem solve, and prioritize.
  • Able to learn and apply new information or new skills.
