Job Summary:

In this role, you will develop, lead, and execute a portfolio strategy for drug delivery products to strengthen West’s market leadership position within the medical device category. This position requires a market facing view turning market and customer insights into solutions that deliver sustainable growth and value for all stakeholders. This leadership role plans and directs all aspects of the specific medical device portfolio, including product and platform plans, leadership during entire product lifecycle, as well as investments and financial performance. The individual must have a deep understanding for device products and proven experience developing teams that build a sustainable franchise off a platform. The role requires a strong collaborator and influencer who can lead across functions in a matrix organization.

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Manage a portfolio of devices and services for drug administration.
    • Develops annual and multi-generational product portfolio roadmaps, strategic plan and release planning in conjunction and consultation with cross functional stake holders to create robust new product pipeline that meets or exceeds customer and market expectations
    • Actively manages portfolio roadmap with strategy for new product introduction, product upgrade/lifecycle extension, portfolio optimization and discontinuation.  Includes market strategy of existing products into targeted markets, as well as new products and new markets
    • Establishes and appropriate external alliances to implement portfolio plan in a timely manner, including licensing agreements and acquisitions. 
    • Key responsibilities would be to enhance current product portfolio’s, through a platform approach, internally or with external technologies /product acquisitions.
    • Develops and executes competitive strategies based on thorough competitive intelligence and market analysis. Drives understanding of Global customer knowledge and needs around the product/platform area.
    • Leads portfolio execution throughout the product life cycle across all key functions including Product Development, Research, Manufacturing and Supply Chain. 
    • Leads long term portfolio specific strategic planning between commercial, operations and corporate development.  
  • Lead lifecycle management and commercialization activities 
    • Identifies new opportunities based on input from strategic marketing leads, market insights, trends (e.g., digital), therapeutic needs analysis, forecasts, overall business value, risks, and product/service needs.   
    • Translates product ideas into defined product/service needs to R&D with detailed user requirements, design inputs, specifications, regulatory needs, and value drivers.  
    • Develops business cases in partnership with market units, R&D, Operations, Regulatory, Quality, and other departments to justify investment of capital and resources. 
    • Partners with R&D, Quality, Operations, Marketing and Regulatory to take products from ideation to concept and through the transition from development to industrialization of full commercial offering. 
    • Partner with Operations and Supply Chain in development of manufacturing strategy providing guidance regarding long term product line strategies.  
    • Provides business and commercial justification for capital expenditures and support operations capital/resource development and approval.  
  • Provide internal and external support for the portfolio. 
    • Drives collaboration with technology partners, contract manufacturers (CMOs) and other industry leaders to improve scientific understanding and enable customers with new West technology. 
    • Participates in collaboration with Scientific Affairs with industry associations, presents at industry forums, publishes trade journal articles, and supports educational series.  

 

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical area (i.e., Biomedical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Biology, etc.) Advanced degree (e.g., Masters, MBA) preferred.
  • Minimum 12+ years of experience building a successful medical device portfolio, preferably in the injectable or wearable drug delivery device product space or healthcare areas, especially in the Home and Hospital drug administration systems through IV route, Self-Injectable solutions like Handheld Auto injectors, Wearable OnBody and Off body Injectors, Primary Containers PFS, Vials, Cartridges and Digital Connectivity. Prior experience in the validation and prioritization of projects within and across business units in the medical device industry.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Holds in-depth understanding of the competitive market in the medical device industry, and R&D, regulatory, manufacturing and quality processes.
  • Experience in operations, supply chain, or process / manufacturing engineering. 
  • High commercial acumen with experience both business building and executing medical device strategy across functions. 
  • Demonstrated increasing levels of responsibility in Product Management, Strategic Marketing or Business Development.  
  • Strong established understanding of the regulated medical device market space and able to quickly adapt to marketplace changes. 
  • Demonstrated cross functional leadership and partnership.  A credible internal and external leader with strong business acumen and strong interpersonal and communication skills. 
  • Energetic self-starter with a strong executive presence, collaborative mindset, and ability to think strategically and analytically. 
  • Identifies and maintains strong relationship with key opinion leaders, customers, professional associations, and advisory boards. Establishes/builds relationships with key internal and external stakeholders as necessary to support business objectives.
  • Strongly results-driven and has a passion for medical devices. 
  • Intellectual curiosity to quickly develop a deep understanding of the company’s offerings and the value potential for clients.

  • Support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target
  • Able to comply with the company’s safety and quality policy at all times
