In this role you will cultivate a vision for the future of biomedical nanomaterials.  You will utilize your extensive experience and deep knowledge of nanomaterials to design, synthesize, and tailor novel nanopolymers.  This role is part of an agile, flexible, and dynamic research and development team of engineers and scientists.  The team is pioneering the development of solutions which address unmet needs in the medical field ranging from novel drug delivery and containment to diagnostic sensing.  In addition to creating and reviewing new scientific literature, you will develop new materials; determine and prioritize applications; lead sound experimentation; and functionalize materials which leverage the innate molecular benefits of nanostructured materials. 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute, and direct multiple complex R&D projects
  • Perform critical and objective appraisals of the generated data and research
  • Define performance criteria and testing modalities in order characterize novel nanomaterials
  • Design, develop, fabricate, and apply novel nanopolymers
  • Functionalize material surfaces using nanoparticles
  • Determine the ideal applications for both new and existing nanomaterials
  • Serve as a nanopolymer expert for other research and development teams
  • Advise team members on material selection and nanotechnology manufacturing and equipment
  • Maintain an awareness of “state of the art” technology as it applies to our industry
  • Lead the brainstorming of new ideas for products, materials, and applications
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor of Science in Nanotechnology, Material Science, Chemical, Biomedical, or related engineering field
  • Minimum 8 years of experience in nanomaterial design/development
  • Experience with Nanoparticle surface functionalization
  • Advanced knowledge and experience with the design, development, synthesis, and characterization of nanoparticles, nanopolymers, and nanotechnology
  • Understand and communicate technical ideas and concepts with technical and non-technical audiences (written and verbal).
  • Established track record of generating intellectual property
  • Demonstrated the ability to multi-task, handle frequently changing job functions, and rapidly learn new techniques and approaches while balancing time effectively between multiple projects
  • Must work well in a fast-paced, agile, start-up environment
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and complexity in your effort to solve problems
  • Familiarity with data analysis tools and methods (i.e., MATLAB, R, Minitab)
  • Advanced understanding of statistics and statistical analysis
  • Experience with applicable laboratory practices, techniques, and equipment.
  • Proficiency with MS word, MS Excel, and MS PowerPoint.


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • PhD or MS in Nanotechnology, Material Science, Chemical, Biomedical, or related engineering field
  • Experience with implantable biomedical devices
  • Experience with biofouling-resistant coatings, processes, and nanomaterials
  • Experience with biomimetic materials
  • Experience with nano based drug delivery and nanomedicine
  • Record of successful transition of concepts to production


Travel Requirements:

  • Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally up to 15%
  • Physical & Mental Requirements:
  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs.
  • Must be able to work in an office/home office environment.
  • Able to effectively communicate and comprehend complex ideas and concepts.
  • Able to use written and oral communication skills.
  • Must maintain the ability to work well with others in a variety of situations. Strong ability to build and maintain solid work relationships.

  • Ability to make independent and sound judgments.
  • Observe and interpret situations, analyze, and solve problems.
