Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Plan, execute, and direct multiple complex R&D projects
  • Perform critical and objective appraisals of the generated data and research
  • Define performance criteria and testing modalities in order characterize novel materials and processes
  • Design and develop new materials and new processes using robust experimentation methodology
  • Lead the brainstorming of new ideas for products, materials, and applications
  • Functionalize polymeric materials for targeted and tailored functionality
  • Determine the ideal applications for both new and existing materials and processes
  • Serve as a material expert for other research and development teams
  • Advise team members on material selection and manufacturing and equipment
  • Maintain an awareness of “state of the art” technology as it applies to our industry
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in Material Science, Chemical engineering, Polymer Science or related field
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in material development and/or manufacturing
  • Significant experience in the development, synthesis, property tailoring, and processing of novel materials and advanced processing
  • Significant experience developing new films including monolayer and multilaminar structured films
  • Experience and knowledge of parenteral containment materials and drug interaction with materials
  • Established knowledge of the underlying atomic and molecular properties of a wide range of materials
  • Established track record of generating intellectual property
  • Experience with the functionalization of polymetric materials
  • Experience designing and developing polymer composites and coating technologies
  • Ability to understand and communicate technical ideas and concepts with technical and non-technical audiences (written and verbal).
  • Demonstrated the ability to multi-task, handle frequently changing job functions, and rapidly learn new techniques and approaches while balancing time effectively between multiple projects
  • Must work well in a fast-paced, agile, start-up environment
  • Experience with applicable laboratory procedures, techniques, and equipment.
