Job Summary:

In this role, you will assist in the execution of packaging testing activities in the laboratory environment to ensure they are completed on time, and to agreed quality standards. The Packaging Technician will provide various packaging and container system with testing and administrative support and provide input to any incident/deviation that arises during test execution. Duties include ensuring adherence to standards, procedures and best practices for record-keeping and proper organization. The successful candidate will assist leading activities in the packaging laboratory, in support of R&D engineers, customer Development Agreements, and sustainment of commercial packaging products


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain a task schedule for individual testing projects in the packaging lab as assigned.
  • Support execute testing as required for active programs with minimal direction from engineering or packaging management.
  • Communicate the results of testing or experimentation with various audiences within the corporate environment; i.e. operators, engineers, managers.
  • Write basic test protocols to support goals of packaging engineers or management.
  • Maintain an inventory of engineering samples and provide delivery of engineering samples as required.
  • Procure testing materials and services as required for experiments or protocols.
  • Facilitate testing services for other West departments.
  • Compose and create work instruction for the packaging laboratory as required.
  • Assist in the training and development of personnel in safety procedures and test methods.
  • Report any damage to equipment, accidents, or other unusual conditions to packaging management.
  • Observe all company safety rules and regulations.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Basic Qualifications:

  • High School or Equivalent
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience or associated degree in a related field


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Some college coursework preferred
  • Prior experience in a packaging environment strongly preferred

Travel Requirements

  • Must be able to travel up to 5% of the time to West facilities and suppliers for support of development projects




Physical & Mental Requirements:

  • Must be able to lift-up to 50 lbs.
  • Must be able to stand for up to 2 hours consecutively when performing testing
  • Must have problem-solving abilities and good communication skills
  • Must be dependable, detail oriented, and able to multi-task
  • Must be aware of all relevant SOPs and safety procedures as per Company policy as they are related to the position but not specifically covered by this Job Description
