Job Summary:

The Director of Global Employee Experience Communications is responsible for developing and executing a proactive internal and external communication program to drive effective talent recruitment and employee engagement across the Company’s 9,200 team members. The Director of Global Employee Experience Communications partners with the Company’s Human Resources Leadership Team to ensure that team members receive engaging and consistent communications from the point of recruitment through their tenure with the Company.


The Director serves as the Business Partner for the Senior Vice President of Human Resources, to provide strategic communications counsel and will partner closely with the leaders of Talent/Recruitment; Diversity Equity and Inclusion; and Total Rewards. The Director also serves as the liaison to the rest of the Global Communications Team for any activities (e.g., external communications, community affairs) that impact the Human Resources Team. They will have 1-2 direct reports.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provides senior global communication counsel to the SVP of Human Resources and other key HR leaders including Talent/Recruitment; Diversity Equity and Inclusion; and Total Rewards
  • Sits on the Global Human Resources Leadership Team and provides counsel to senior executives across the business on the best communications strategies to position West as an employer of choice inside and outside the Company
  • Directs all external online and social media efforts around talent recruitment including website content, advertisements, public relations outreach, and social media
  • Creates consistent employee onboarding communications to orient new team members and educate them about the Company and how to be successful
  • Manages all communications around the Company’s Total Rewards program throughout the year including all Benefits outreach communications
  • Crafts, deploys, and reports the results of employee engagement through regular surveys
  • Plans and executes proactive communication strategies to support the Company’s Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion efforts both inside and outside the Company
  • Creates easily adaptable manager communication tools that increase manager confidence and improve employee engagement
  • Supports all other HR-related communication needs (employee handbooks, new employment practices updates, etc.)
  • Drives adoption of best practice internal communications and corporate communications
  • Identifies and analyzes business and audience needs to deliver messages via the most appropriate mix of media and channels
  • Maintains the Company branding guidelines in all internal and corporate communication creation
  • Develops measurement criteria and processes that effectively evaluate internal and corporate communications programs
  • Ensures proper corporate review and approval of all internal and corporate communication assets
  • Ensures a consistent global experience for stakeholders, and implement appropriate localization/translation strategies in partnership with local and regional West teams
  • Manage any relevant outside agencies and associated budget
  • Manages 1-2 direct reports
  • Inspire, coach, train, develop, motivate, and evaluate team members to enable their capabilities and accomplish the department’s priorities. Ensures team members have access to training, coaching, and mentoring to thrive in their respective roles and enhance professional development.
  • Communicate key digital messages, goals, and objectives to team members in their local geographies or business units to drive alignment and a high-performance culture.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications (PR), Marketing Communications or Journalism
  • Minimum 10 years of experience
  • Management roles with increasing responsibility
  • Management of strategic internal engagement communication programs in partnership with business strategy execution
  • Top tier writing skills
  • Executive communication experience
  • Media relations experience
  • Crisis communication experience
  • Experience working in a global, matrixed organization
  • Budget management skills
  • Experience managing outside agencies and associated budget


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Experience in Social Content Management Platforms (such as Sprout Social / HootSuite, etc.)
  • Experience in Web Content Management Systems (Sitecore, etc.)
  • Experience in Microsoft Office 365 and SharePoint
  • Proficient in a variety of Adobe Creative Suite tools (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator, etc.)
  • Able to be aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
  • Support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target
  • Able to comply with the company’s safety and quality policy at all times
