Job Summary:

In this role, you will lead the plant procurement teams for your assigned region (Americas or EU/APAC). Directly and through teams, responsible and accountable for developing, implementing, and sustaining procurement plans and strategies for the assigned region that are directly supportive of global procurement business objectives and professional/ethical business practices. Drive cross-site consistency of the globally harmonized procurement responsibilities and processes, while establishing and implementing best practices across regions. Partner with the Sr Dir, Category Management Procurement and the other regional Directors, Plant Procurement as to vet and decide which activities fall into each function plus collaborate on continuous supply assurance. Act as the upstream and downstream communicator translating enterprise targets into Plant Procurement priorities for assigned region, in alignment with the Sr Dir, Category Management Procurement and the other regional Directors, Plant Procurement.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Lead the individual plant procurement leads in the assigned region, helping them to be successful delivering their objectives while providing strategic mid-term outlook and vision.
  • Set up plant procurement management routines as to balance rigger process discipline e.g., in regard of meeting cadence, use of templates, documents and nerve center vs. necessary flexibility as to stay agile responding to short-term demands.
  • Guide and support the regional Plant Procurement teams applying globally harmonized processes and execute sourcing Plant Procurement initiatives to deliver optimal total cost of ownership, consolidate supplier base and drive efficiency through the chosen solutions, together with a multitude of global stakeholders at various levels and locations, leveraging scale and scope across the regional West network. Provide proactive management of critical issues with supplier. Inform and coordinate communication with Regional Supply Chain leads on major supplier issues with recommendations for resolution.
  • Understand and have a good knowledge, both within and beyond own function, of the regional landscape of the supply market for goods and services in terms of supplier base, technologies, competitive environment, market trends and cost drivers.
  • Source and implement strategic sourcing solutions previously unknown to West, or previously known but not actioned.
  • Create and deploy necessary organizational structures in assigned region to meet goals and objectives. Enable training and skills building programs for all regional Plant Procurement teams. Recommend best practice standards and internal policies globally, and vet them within the Global Procurement Leadership Team on suitability to be implemented on a global level.
  • Identify and assess risks and benefits of sourcing decisions and clearly present proposals to mitigate risks collaboratively, ensuring sustained product supply-quality-compliance.
  • Build and keep up a trustful and fruitful relationship with cross functional peers. Align cross functional targets as to balance resources helping both, Procurement´s and other functions target to be achieved.
  • Contribute that all Procurement related targets, mainly focused on risk mitigation and cost savings, are delivered on time and in full.
  • Perform supplier relationship management to ensure continuous improvement and innovation, best in class pricing, product and service quality, continuity of goods and services, and alignment with internal stakeholders and company strategies.
  • Conform with and abide by all regulations, policies, work procedures, instructions, and all safety rules.
  • Ensure adequate protection of confidential information and documentation. Restrict access to confidential information. Ensure that key operational and essential documentation files are properly stored.

Basic Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a Business, Technical, or equivalent curriculum
  • Minimum 10 years of progressive business experience in sourcing/supplier/category management or related functions


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in a Business, Technical, or equivalent curriculum
  • 15+ years of progressive business experience in sourcing/supplier/category management or related functions, preferably with chemical industry or pharmaceutical industry background.
  • Supply Chain or Procurement certifications
  • Experience in managing cross-functional projects
  • Extensive experience in SAP (MM) and MS Office
  • Proficiency in one additional language
  • Able to be aware of all relevant SOPs as per Company policy as they are related to the position covered by this Job Description
  • Support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target
  • Able to comply with the company’s safety policy at all times
  • Able to comply with the company’s quality policy at all times.


Travel Requirements:

  • Must be able to travel up to 20% of the time
