Job summary:

The Chemist for Material Development for Polymers (m/f/d) will work within the research and development team on exploring, defining, and evaluating novel polymers for film and coating application. Furthermore, they will initiate and explore new thermoset formulation concepts and chemistry to enable further product performance improvements.

 


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Propose and evaluate novel reaction mechanisms of individual ingredients of thermoset rubber formulations
  • Analyze and evaluate organic and inorganic compounds formed during the manufacturing of thermoset formulation
  • Initiate, define and evaluate novel polymers for film and coatings in accordance with the long-term strategy as well as new materials for elastomeric rubbers to overcome existing target conflicts
  • Explore and characterize existing and novel chemical reactions to enable the development of high-performance elastomeric rubber compounds
  • Act as subject matter expert for coating, film, and material-related questions
  • Perform active technology scouting by advancing and executing an outreach strategy to identify new technologies for material development
  • Prepare documentation and milestone reporting according to project management tools in our GMP environment
  • Define, plan, execute and interpret results during development and research projects for pharmaceutical primary packaging and components focused but not limited to film, coating and thermoset formulations
  • Identify, plan, and collaborate with external vendors/suppliers to set up and establish new tests/methodologies and materials

 

Basic Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in chemistry, material science, or comparable qualification with a strong expertise in polymer chemistry
  • A minimum of 5 years of professional experience in elastomer/composite/thermoset development or related materials
  • Strong knowledge & expertise in data processing, characterization, and analytical methods to evaluate elastomers/polymers
  • Excellent English knowledge is a must, German language skills or the willingness to learn is appreciated

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Expert knowledge of films, coatings, and polymeric materials
  • Experience with common plastic and rubber processing technologies and characterization methods
  • Team player working in an international environment
  • Project management and problem-solving methodologies
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Innovative and analytical mind set
  • Collaboration with external suppliers, universities and knowledge & technology centers
