Job Summary:
Manages the maintenance and repair of equipment in operation at West. Liaises with external contractors for the maintenance and repair of same. The Maintenance Technician is also responsible for using the preventative maintenance system to pre-determined guidelines. Reporting directly to the Maintenance Lead Technician.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Responsible for the maintenance and breakdown repair of moulding equipment in the company.
- The above equipment will include among others, moulding machines, automation/robots, water heaters, oil heaters, conveyors, and hot runner controllers.
- Work with the Production Group leaders (PGL’s) in troubleshooting equipment/plant problems.
- Establishes relationships with the customers and suppliers in pursuit of continuous improvement and on-going business development.
- Attends, schedules, and facilitates internal meetings to help establish priorities and assign tasks.
- Solves, in conjunction with the Quality department, customer related problems/issues as needed.
- In conjunction with approved vendors, research new processes and/or systems for maintenance/manufacture of equipment and implement new processes and systems as developed under the direction of the Operations Manager.
- Instructs others, formally or informally, regarding manufacturing related skills or knowledge and assist in the training of employees on new processes or systems introduced to the company.
- Compliance to all site Environmental, Health and Safety requirements, training, and regulations.
- Support and contribute to Lean Sigma programs and activities towards delivery of the set target.
- Able to comply with the company’s safety policy at all times.
- Able to comply with the company’s quality policy at all times.
- Perform additional duties at the request of the direct manager.
Basic Qualifications:
- Minimum Level 6 engineering qualification in an Electrical or Mechanical discipline.
- A minimum of 2 years’ experience working in a maintenance related role.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Electrical/Mechanical/software qualification plus time served in a Plastic-processing environment would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of PLC Programming and electrical work.
- Ability to read electrical, mechanical, and hydraulic/pneumatic drawings is essential.
- Some experience supporting a high-volume manufacturing environment would be an advantage.
- Some understanding of the injection molding process.
- Previous experience working on technically challenging applications would be an advantage (i.e.) medical, tight tolerance work.
- Ability to interact with suppliers, customers, and external contractors.
Travel Requirements:
- Must be able to travel up to 5% of the time.
Physical and Mental Requirements:
Physical:
- This job is classified as having medium physical requirements as the candidate will be required to perform physical tasks that require working with tools and working at heights.
- The position requires the candidate to complete activities that require a physical activity such as lifting, standing, bending, physical environment, climbing, visual acuity.
- The candidate must be able to lift up to 25kgs and be able to climb up and down stairs or platform ladders up to 10 times per day.
Mental:
- Ability to learn new tasks, remember processes, maintain focus, complete tasks independently, make timely decisions in the context of a workflow and ability to communicate with visitors.
- Must be able to express or exchange ideas with other employees in verbal and written form.
- Must be able to understand direction and adhere to established procedures.
