Job Summary:


In this role you will;

  • Manufacture graphite electrodes for elastomer & plastic mould production
  • Assist the EDM cell in elastomer & plastic mould production
  • Multi-task across a number of machines and processes at any one time
  • Control material & cutters to suit production requirements
  • Take the lead role in training, scheduling, monitoring HSM co-workers
  • Demonstrate a proactive mindset for process development
  • Assist in increasing automation and utilsation of equipment
  • Support and contribute in Lean Sigma programs and activities
  • Support colleagues, Section Leaders and Managers in meeting all quality, delivery and cost objectives
  • Comply with the company’s safety, environmental and quality policies at all times


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Setting & operation of 5-axis high-speed milling machines
  • Database management for automated operation of multiple machine tools
  • Operation and monitoring of CNC EDM machines
  • Flexibility to return after hours to meet critical production requirements
  • Initiative to manage self and HSM tools independently but co-ordinated with production requirements
  • Computer Aided Manufacturing (CAM) programming (modification of existing programs)
  • Ensure maximum OEE through effective prioritisation and use of automation
  • Red, understand & interpret Engineering drawings correctly
  • Create inspection & report files plus utilise various measuring equipment to ensure product conformity
  • Adhere to routine machine maintenance & safety schedules
  • Report any problems or irregularities which are outside your control to your line manager or other appropriate person.
  • Learn how to operate other machinery or carry out other processes as required
  • To carry out other duties as may be required from time to time by your line manager and temporarily transfer to other departments as dictated by workload requirements
  • Other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications: 


  • Required:

Formal engineering apprenticeship to NVQ3 level (or C&G equivalent)

  • Desirable:

Formal engineering apprenticeship to HNC level (or C&G equivalent)


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Required:

Extensive experience in setting & operation of High-Speed Milling machine

Extensive experience in automated machine tools and database management

Experience in Heidenhain machine tool controls

Experience in multi-axis machine tools

Familiarity and experience of use of measuring equipment

Familiarity and experience of interpreting Engineering drawings

Experienced and conversant PC user


  • Desirable:


Experience in elastomer mould, plastic mould and press-tool manufacture

Experience in conventional toolroom machinery (mills, lathes, surface grinders)

Knowledge of other toolroom machinery (cylindrical grinders, EDM, WEDM)

Knowledge of modern cutting tools, techniques and electrode materials

Experience of “Lean Manufacturing” techniques
