Job Summary:

In this role you will;

  • Manufacture and repair elastomer & plastic moulds, multi-trim dies and other tooling components
  • Multi-task across a number of machines and processes at any one time
  • Demonstrate a proactive mindset for process development
  • Assist in increasing automation and utilsation of equipment
  • Support and contribute in Lean Sigma programs and activities
  • Support colleagues, Section Leaders and Managers in meeting all quality, delivery and cost objectives
  • Comply with the company’s safety, environmental and quality policies at all times


Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Setting & operation of CNC milling machines (incl. programming)
    • Vertical, Horizontal & 5-axis
  • Setting & operation of CNC & NC surface grinders
  • Read, understand & interpret Engineering drawings correctly
  • Utilise various measuring equipment to ensure product conformity
  • Adhere to routine machine maintenance & safety schedules
  • Report any problems or irregularities which are outside your control to your line manager or other appropriate person.
  • Learn how to operate other machinery or carry out other processes as required
  • To carry out other duties as may be required from time to time by your line manager and temporarily transfer to other departments as dictated by workload requirements
  • Other duties as assigned


Basic Qualifications: 

  • Required:
    • Formal engineering apprenticeship to NVQ3 level (or C&G equivalent)


  • Desirable:
    • Formal engineering apprenticeship to HNC level (or C&G equivalent)


Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Required:
    • Extensive experience in programming, setting & operation of CNC Mills
    • Familarity and experience of use of measuring equipment.
    • Familiarity and experience of interpreting Engineering drawings
    • Demonstrated knowledge of modern cutting tools and techniques


  • Desirable:
    • Experienced in FANUC machine tool controls
    • Experienced in multi-axis machine tools
    • Experience in elastomer mould, plastic mould and press-tool manufacture
    • Experience in conventional toolroom machinery (mills, lathes, surface grinders)
    • Knowledge of other toolroom machinery (cylindrical grinders, EDM, WEDM)
    • Experienced and conversant PC user
    • Experience in automation processes & database managed machine tools
    • Experience of “Lean Manufacturing” techniques
    • Experienced in Offline programming & part verification

  • Report near miss accidents or incidents at the earliest opportunity in the appropriate report books

  • Ensure that your work area(s) are kept clean and tidy at all times
  • Ensure Health, Safety and Environmental compliance
  • Ensure correct use of PPE
